Thanks again Mark for the great link. I tried fumbling my way thru some of the pages of the thread and looked at the particular posts you mentioned. I guess it will be very difficult to nail down 100% if this is the original engine or not. The good thing is. I feel that there is a much higher probability that it is the original engine vs. a replacement engine. I think I saw on some of the posts in the thread that the built date on the engine was the year before the model yr it was sold/titled.... at least I think I saw that??? So my title shows the CJ5 is a 70 model but engine is a 69... so I'm thinking it could definitely be the original engine. Well if anyone thinks they can help me confirm this as the original engine I would certainly appreciate it. I'm just excited to find out exactly what I've got under the hood and it's not a 231 like the PO thought:) I feel pretty confident it's the original engine now.
Thanks again for all the help guys. Really do appreciate it! Hopefully one day in the not so distant future I will be able to help others out with the info you have given me!

Sweet, just found this info and I would say that I am 100% sure this is the original engine! :D

Does anyone have a current link to this.
    I found this website:
    http://nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/~reese/BuickV6CastingNumbersandInternalSpecs.pdf
but it doesn't seem to jive with the OP statement of
"Do you see what I see 991503! So going off the info sparky linked it looks like this is an odd fire 225 made between 67-74."

Am I missing something obvious here?
    thanks
