Help with brake I.D.

Can someone tell me what brakes these are?


I currently have what I think is Bendix style rear brakes all ready rebuilt. Will I be able to just swap mine onto this axle?

That's not Bendix. Bendix are 11"x2" and started in CJs in 1972. If you have a '71, that should be the Wagner (?) 10" brakes. Should be a 13/16" diameter cylinder.

Measure the inside diameter of your drums.

 

This axle is not on my Jeep, its a centered dana 44 from 72 on.
there are no drums but they measure 11" O.D. I want to use the set up keeping the brakes that are on my Jeep now. They are Bendix I think, mounted on a 72 and later centered axle

 

your existing will work swap/just fine in my opinion
what's on the axle look like early cam adjusting off of early wagon of pickup?

 

It is cam adjusted, I don't like them. This is on a narrow track CJ axle, I have not seen this style before on a later axle though. It came with a lot of very nice extras that make it worth swapping, including the correct gear ratio.

 

umm....is that the spindle BETWEEN the housing and the backing plate?
Has Steve been working on this axle ?????

 

Warn full float kit. The Warn internal spline hubs and yellow zinc bearing hubs are a dead giveaway. Drum backing plates bolt on the outside of the spindle.
Why someone would put those brakes on that setup is beyond me but there you have it.

 

hmm...didn't know that was the proper way to assemble the Warn kit.
I guess Steve is off the hook then.
