Trying to find some info on a top. It was on my '57 when I bought it. Sorry no pics. It used the top bows that mounted into sockets at the center and welded at the rear quarters. Used either footman loops or a bar that snapped into spring clips at the edge of the body. There were mounts on the windshield and front bow that held a bent strip of oak. Who may have made this? I have the canvas but it is pretty well gone. I got two tops with the jeep but the one I'm inquiring about was on the jeep. Material was oiled canvas, but not OD, black. Pics of windshield and bows below.

Sounds to me like the stock canvas top supplied prior to the early 60's.

X 2! In '67 we bought a '59 CJ5 that had a top which was canvas/OD color. It had spring clips like he described. It seemed old enough to have come new with the Jeep.

I have all the remains of the original top and a second top and all the hardware. I'll dig it out and post pictures.

Never found the original so I made one. Used a cargo strap to tension a well soaked piece of 2" x 1/2" white oak 40" long. Let it dry for a week. I found the length necessary to keep the front bow vertical to be 35 1/2" to the windshield bracket. Finished it in clear polyurethane, kind of matches the top.[IMG][IMG]
