When i went through the Flatfenders drivetrain, i drained the Transmission and cleaned the inside with brake cleaner as good as i could. The box was not that much of a mess but it was old dirty oil. I filled it up with fresh oil and went on with the rest of the drivetrain.
Fast forward to when i finally got the Jeep running, I had a problem with the jeep shifter fork not on the collar. I pulled the top off and saw that the oil was a milky yellow color. I put the top back on and finally today i drained it and put fresh oil in again. It drained out like milky honey. No water. And no way water got in cause the jeep never saw a spot of rain being in the garage. I guess it is just old oil that i didnt reach when i cleaned it. Any other way to cause the oil to get milky like that?

I run in my basement garage as well. Without it I'll break 80% humidity easily.

I used lubriplate light grease (very light tan color) to rebuild my Dana 18 several years ago and the first time I checked it after adding 90wt oil and a few miles it was a blond/honey color, so the grease holding all those roller bearing in can influence to final color of it after it has all mixed.
