So since the old thread was wrecked by Photobucket. Lets start a new one. How are some ways to disable a Willys jeep so it can't be stolen or make it harder to steal? I like this idea I found for a MB/GPW. But it is easy to put the transfer case in neutral and push the jeep out. Maybe run some chain out from under the dash and padlock the transfer case also?

Military Humvees have a braided steel cable that comes out from under the dash and loops around the steering wheel. Secures with a mil-spec padlock as well. That's their keys, since they all start with a switch.

Another idea is a battery disconnect switch up under the dash on the firewall, just for that extra measure against hot-wiring.

I might just leave the transfer shift in neutral. Most people today wouldn't have a clue.

Or remove the rotor from the distributor.

Battery disconnect, fuel line cut off, ignition disable...all good ideas but wont stop 2 guys with a tow rope and a pickup.
The chain to the shifters or steering wheel will slow down a casual thief but could be cut pretty easily.
    I don't know of a good solution...

Never done it, so just a thought. Along with other deterrents--pull the e-brake and apply a lock to it--would vary with design.

Is this like Doomsday prepping? I honestly doubt anybody is going to steal an old jeep. Has anybody here had theirs stolen?

I think that anyone who's going to steal an old Jeep is not your casual thief. He knows what he wants.

No one is going to steal my jeep, but they have and will put everything in neutral and it will roll away. I welded a chain link to my gear shifter and have a chain and a padlock to lock it into reverse. I don't have one on the transfer can anymore, but will do that as soon as I can.

If mine isn't in the garage, it's ALWAYS parked where I have eyes on it.
    Yes, people do.

My jeep lives inside when not in use. When I drive it my German Shepherd sits in the drivers seat while I am in a restaurant or store.

That's cool. Everyone thinks my white boxer is a vicious pitbull and stays far away...but he is so friendly he'd help you push my jeep onto your trailer.

I think my 55 with the push button start on the floor behind the shifter would thwart most thieves. Heck most people don’t even know the one on the left is for the brights.

Years ago, on an FJ40 (am I allowed to type that vehicle model # on this website?), I had a sticker with the words: "Bullet holes hurt" and a picture something like this.

The chain on the hood sounds like a good idea. Is it run through the support brace on the hood down to the frame?
