I just have replaced it on my CJ7 and was wondering as well, because it was the same.
But even the factory parts were like this, so I assumed that this is OK.
Also the sizes of the bushings do not allow a tight fit.

Just scored a 304 and a lot if parts. New RV cam, lifters, double roller timing set master rebuild kit, Edelbrock intakes (2), Edelbrock dress up kit. Etc etc.

    All new, $200.00. :)

    This will help.

As you may know, we installed a 1985 360 from a Waggy into the '74 CJ5.

Now we have to figure out the wiring hook up for the ignition. He had points and now using the Dura Spark (I think it is).

I took the wire loom off the Waggy's harness (pulled the harness w/the motor) to see the colors/where they go.

Then we are going to follow the old wiring and see where that leads and how it was hooked up to the distributor hopefully just adding the electronic ignition.

Did a few google searches and read some links but still a little confused with the incorporation of the module/hookup.

Any help would be grateful as always.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Not sure if it's the same as the setup used in Fords but if it is all you need is a wiring diagram for the donor. There are 2 wires that run to the vehicle harness 1 is hot in run the other is hot in start and advances the timing to help it start eaiser if memory serves. I just use the hot in run and connect to the harness at a 12v source that is hot in run and start.

Well we pulled the valve covers and intake off Jr's 360 to install a Edelbrock 4bbl intake and carb. Engine looks very clean for a 1985 w/140k on it.

A little confused but will look into it. I guess all I need to figure out is to tap the ECM/Dist into the '74's wiring.

My son installed headers and on the drivers side the fuel line is right under the header.

I do need to move it but is there a spring/heat dissipation) I can buy to slide over the fuel line ?

Reason I ask is when I bought a set from Inline-Tube for my build it had one on the fuel line.

You maybe able to see it on the frame rail. It also has a hump that went over the clutch linkage etc.

    Thanks,
    Jim

Question, when installing the flexplate and torque converter should we use Blue or Red loctite ?

    Thanks,
    Jim

Ok I asked this before but can't find the post.

I have this Holley carb and Jr wants to use it until he can save up some money for a Edelbrock 1406.

Question, I don't see a PCV valve hook up on the carb. Does that mean we have to drill a hole on his new valve covers or ?

Also, besides the yellow cap for the choke and the front small brass nipple for the dust vacuum, what is the other one for?

Is it to "Y" off the Dist vacuum to operate the secondaries?

    Thanks,
    Jim

P.S. we/NaPa don't even know what model this is and I gave them the air horn info.

Thank you, I found this but I still don't see a PCV hookup.

    Thanks again,

After further review the '74 doesn't have a fuse block so I guess I need to run the read wire to the ignition switches yellow wire and connect the blue on there as well ??

Ok I took the dash off to look at this 1974 wiring and how it is hooked up w/out a fuse block.

The Red and Blue wire come from the switch itself.

I'm going to splice in the Red wire w/white tracer from the module into the Red wire on the harness which leads to the Alt etc.

Then I am going to splice in the Blue wire to the Blue wire in the harness which leads to the starting solenoid.

This should make it run w/the 1985's electronic ignition.

Green wire to - side of cool and Brown wire to the Alt small brown wire.

    Should work.

P.S. The yellow wire nuts are temporary.
