   I bet it ant the timing gear?
   Time for a tear down and inspection!
   I'd take it kinda easy, keep under 2.5-3k, finish out winter, keep my ear open, shut it down if new noise arrise . Then teardown .
   A 70HP engine,that weighs as much as a v8, GOTTA be TOUGH!

   He definitely needs to find the problem, no doubt about that one! It's not super difficult to pull the cover, better to know and fix if need be than wonder and hope.
