Left the key on overnight...... no start now.

I have always been a points ignition guy, loved the simplicity of points. people kept telling me to go electronic, but I seen no reason, I loved my points. A Hei was given to me this past summer and I will never go points again. The improvements are great, smoother running, easier starts (one hit with the key and it starts) better response with the peddle, no more misses, just all around smoother running engine IMO.

 

I'm still running points with my stock 73 distributor, but I added an MSD electronic ignition box. Runs perfect. Difference in night and day. And, if the box craps out, a swap of a few wires and I can go back to the points doing the work.

I still like systems that respond to duct tape and baling wire, to get you home.

Not a metaphor...

This week my F-350 went DRT (Dead, Right There) in the middle of the road, with a snowstorm coming.

It has more electronics than the space shuttle, but it was 6 inches of baling wire that got power to the fuel pump, got me home, and saved several hundred dollars in towing and so on. In fact I'm running the baling wire every day now, until parts come.

 

YUP!! I got the distributor on and in, didn't go to the trouble to put a light on it, it sounded pretty good where i put it right from the start. i also fixed the 4x4 on it, i blew a warn hub apart and broke every bolt off in the hub, i was out last night till it got dark with drills and easy out's, but i got the distributor in and the hub on. i went with a points system off a 73. I use my dad's commercial account at the autoparts store (advance) and got the distributor, cap, rotor, and ballast resistor for a total of $47!! Thanks to everyone who helped me out on this!! i got it going just in time to plow some snow.

 

Looks like tough plowing snow, especially once it freezes hard in those banks....Glad to her you got it going in time to plow, nothing is quite as bad as a broken plow truck with the kinds of storms you guys have been having.
