Lol, that's an old old article, I still have some of the boards from that log we heaved into my truck.

This one was not from a log, well, not a log that I cut up anyway.

Here is the neck wood, quarter sawn aged maple

And Here's the body, also quarter sawn but it's Alder to keep the weight down

This is what became the carved top, super sexy flamey maple.

I once made an entire kitchen set of face frames and drawer/door fronts out of curly maple. Looked great! Nice work here!

Fixing the most uncomfortable throttle position ever.

Started with attaching a skateboard wheel bearing to the throttle linkage.

Cut this out of plate steel and shortened a weldable hinge to fit.

A little flappy paddle wheel sanding on the weld and it will look good. It's so much more comfortable. Think I need some grip tape or ridges or anything?

I finished the last 4 pieces of plate for boxing my frame, that was a big job with the tub on. I degreased the whole underneath and scrubbed as much as possible to get all the grease and grime off. Just trying to dry it quicker with the fan.

Then I painted the entire frame with Rust Reformer. I didn't really have much rust but this stuff sure works good.

Here is some of the boxing

Then I moved on to exhaust. I have not been able to find the perfect flanges to connect exhaust to my manifolds so I had to make some. I'm ashamed to say how long this took me.

I lightly bent the outside edge out and then pressed them onto my manifold part that needs the flange.

I cut out the little vacuum flapper deal since I don't have the vacuum for it anyway.

    Plugged and welded the hole

I could only find flanges with 1.5" openings and I needed 2.25" and I only have a 2" hole saw

After much filing and grinding and fenagling I got them to fit

Then make another and weld them on

I ordered the manifold gaskets and bought some stainless tube to start bending the exhaust. I'll be driving it again soon I think.

Thx, not really at the point where I would say I'm proud of my fab work, but I'm learning.

Any of these numbers mean anything to anybody? No idea what the specifics of this box are, It's off a YJ, is that the one with the square headlights? 87-95?

    It's actually a 3 bolt box on a 4 bolt bracket

The best part about learning to fab is that in 5 years from now you will be way better. At that point, you can cut it all off and do it over again. We all do it. Of course we love pictures.

Funny, I just told someone the other day, "my next Jeep will be awesome" to which he replied "you'll say that about your 3rd and 4th and 5th Jeep also" :D.

Scored a FREE 15 gallon rear gas tank with a custom made powder coated skid plate and working pump tonight

I guess that changes my plan to make the aluminum tank I was planning.

Ha! Good ole Craigslist. Super nice guy, he's built a lot of Jeeps. He's currently renting and the landlord sold the place and gave him 60 days to get out. He just needed it out of his way. I tried to give him $10 beer money but he wouldn't even take that, just helped me load it in my truck and showed me pics of his current CJ7 build with Dana 60's. This tank is out of that, he moved the rear axle back 4" which is why this tank wouldn't work for him anymore. He bought a $$$$ Genrite tank for his build.

I never know what I don't need until someone advertises their junk on Craigslist.

Got the old steering gear off and quickly realized there was no way the power steering gear was going to fit with this winch :(

So off came the winch, which was eventful by myself. Had to lower it down on a jack. I'll have to move the winch over if I want to keep this one, or I could get a more modern one I guess.

And then got the power steering gear mounted, which bolted right up to the existing mount.

And then realized there was no way my steering shaft would clear my manifold :(.

So I either modify the steering gear mount or the steering shaft. I'm thinking steering shaft would be easier but not sure yet.

Solved the steering shaft manifold conflict.

And got out the pipe bender to start making exhaust.
