No - the Ford center hole is smaller, and the hubcap bumps are different. Bolt pattern is the same.

    5.5" x 15" = # 930407 = 1963
    6.0" x 15" = # 994727 = 1970

    Hi from Australia,

So to repeat a question earlier, were there 16" wheels with hubcaps?

    Cheers,

    Gordon

    Only for early 2WD and 4WD PU's also 4WD SW's only. Never for any CJ's or DJ's.

    Thanks Ken.

It's hard tracking down suitable wheels in Australia; not nearly as many Jeeps sold, and shipping from the States is dear.

    Cheers,

    Gordon

OK, I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I JUST PURCHASED 4 RIMS PREMATURELY. I received the rims and 3 are the same and 1 is different. Three of them have rounded cutouts and one has more square cutouts. Also, the one with square cutouts on the edge is about 1/2 inch wider. How do I measure the width of these rims and how do I know if these are for a 1973 cj5. I am trying to go back to a stock look with the tall skinny tires. PLEASE HELP. Feel free to call me 843-270-9407. One way or the other I have to purchase at least one more wheel.

Although I am looking for early style rims, I would still like to see photos for reference. Can you post some photos of the two different type rims you have?

Rim width is measured from inside bead to bead. Any stampings or markings on the rims?

    Thanks,

    Cary

Width is measured from inner tire mounting surface to opposite inner tire mounting surface. I'll post some pictures of a stock Jeep wheel demounted, likely tomorrow morning.

Here's a picture of the wheels I installed on my 72. I believe these are stock and were probably the same for 73. I mounted 7.00 x15 tires on these and the combination works fine.

Here's another view before they were panted.

Without going all Sheldon from Big Bang Theory on part #'s and such....

All the stock jeep wheels I've seen, no matter size or year were the same as to the innermost lug hole ring. They were all flat as in the second picture on this treads first post. The first one looks like a ford wheel or something. Everything from the early '42 solid wheels, combat rims, 16" slotted 2A through 5 wheels and up to the late 15" CJ5 wheels had the same looking inner ring.

The ones below show a progress of wheels from MB to CJ2a. You can see the same style ring in post above

    mdmeltdown,

I believe you are correct. A Jeep rim has the center/lug nut ring. I remember my first '66 CJ5 had the ring and I know the rims were stock. I was the second owner and the PO did not change the rims.

So... regardless of size the center/lug nut ring makes the rim Jeep. All others are something else.

    Thanks,

    Cary

Now if I can find some to replace the mismatch set I have. I have been looking since I bought my new '66 CJ5.

Fwiw here's a pic of the stock wheel from my '57 restoration project. I have 5 all color matched and original to the Jeep (1 which is the factory spare).

    Supertrooper,

    You have
    R)

Just when I thought I had figured out the stock rim deal you show me your rim. I believe your rims may not be stock from Jeep. Although Jeep may have used various suppliers for rims which may account for your rims, I think the majority of Jeep rims have the ring around the lug nut holes.

Your rims may also be replacement rims from a Jeep dealer. Say a customer damaged a rim, did the dealer replace all the rims with rims they could get cheaper and easier locally? Maybe a customer could up grade the stock tires to a better tire and the dealer had the tires already mounted on rims?

How do I know, just a guess. But I have two of your style rims on my Jeep. Most of the stock rim photos I have seen both historical and current are of the ring around the lug nut holes style. That is the type of rim I am looking for my '66.

Anyone have more photos of stock rims please post them. The more information we have the better.

    Thanks,

    Cary

Here are a couple of pictures of the wheels that came with my CJ-6.

This shows the backspacing - I presume the backspacing is measured from the tire mounting surface, so it's about 3.5". This also shows how the inner edge of the center hole is turned over, reinforcing the center hole.

This was my spare - it's not a Jeep wheel.

I think this is a Ford wheel - it has a 3.375" diam center hole, which is too small to fit over the Jeep hub. The Jeep center hole is about 4.125" diam. You can see how cutting out the center would remove the reinforcing edge of the center hole.

These are KH wheels we bought that were listed for a ford, we cut the centers out to fit over the front hubs.

Note how the stud holes literally ripped apart, kinda makes me nervous now to think we were running on these things :(

Going back a bit further to the 50's there were KH wheels & Wheel Company wheels in use, although I think by the time the 5's came out only KH's were being supplied. there used to be pics of these in the tech section but apparently they disappeared during The Troubles :(.

Th KH's on the ends have the center ring, the Wheel Company in the center doesn't. I was actually cleaning these up a bit on the weekend, the manufacturer marks are on the inside near the valve stem hole.

My 67 v6 had 15' wagon wheels,I looked and looked for stock 16 wheel and ended up getting 67 ford rims with new 235 tires, I.D. Dia hole was smaller so I bored them out. they are 15x7 rims..the only way to tell they are modified is by the I.D. lip missing.I havent painted(white and pitted) them yet,but they look like the rim in the 1st photo in the thread. Hope one day to get hub caps for it.
