I just put in a dauntless with offenhauser intake. Went to put my gm electronic distributor in, and it wont clear the bolt or body of the intake. Near the #1 cylinder... Anyone run into this?

Everyone who installs an HEI runs into this issue, you can use a button head bolt at the point of interference, grind a little off the original bolt AND a little off the HEI, or leave the original bolt out and watch for leaks. Some grinding on the manifold MAY be necessary also. Don't get carried away, try a little at a time until the HEI fits and the timing can be adjusted. This has been covered numerous times on this site and others. This is a great site for V6 info, Good luck!

PS You might want to put a thin film of AntiSieze on the body of the distributor that goes inside the block, I've seen them seize in the block so tight it required a pipe wrench or adjustable wrench to turn them, that may be why the is a square cast into most Buick V6 HEI's.

Even the factory 3.8 even and odd-fire engines that came originally with the HEI distributor used a button head allen bolt. I usually grind about 1/8" off the front manifold bolt position to allow the button head bolt to clear the underside of the distributor.
