I think I will go with a modified Holley 390 four barrel. This seems to be right for V6 displacement and the Offy manifold and its smaller, dual plane runners. I think there is a way to make it a sort of mini-Truck Avenger. Doing some research now.

I have done the 390, Edlebrock 500, TA470, Powerjection III, and EZ-EFI. All have pros and cons :D

The stumble on the TA470 I could never make go away either, the custom 390s were great, the 500 just too much at the altitude and I couldn't get it to run right. Powerjection III - I have one of the early ones and it's great, never had a problem with it. Put the EZ-EFI on the last one and will go with it from now on. To standardize on the jeeps, I'll move the Powerjection to my kids Scout or Wife's Mustang.

Let me know if you want more info on the FI.

You know, I got lucky, or something, I've never had the stumble with the 470 on mine, that everybody talks about. It took me a bit to get it dialed in (mine ran rich as hell out of box), but it's never had an off-idle stumble. That being said, it is destined to get Fuel Injection at some point in the future.

I had that TA 470 stumble as well. I had it close to perfect but never there. Eventually I put a 2bbl intake and Rochester carb on. Perfect driveability and good offroad. I should've left it alone in the beginning. Glad I sold the TA.

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but I've been running a Q jet for years with great results.
I've tried almost every two and four barrel carb over the years and the the Q jet wound up being the choice. I know it is large, needs a spreadbore intake, and is a bit complicated, but the primaries are tiny, giving nice off idle and low speed response, operates well in off camber situations, flows properly at higher RPM's, and has never bogged.

I heard someone else had good luck with a Q-jet on a V6. I wondered why more folks hadn’t tried them. I think they’re a good carb. They also used to be one of the best off road carbs out there before the TA came out.
