    If you have one or can confirm with pictures the existence of one.....Put it here. I've found 3 CJ-6's so far. There's not alot of info on these so I'd like to start kind of a "registry" of sorts so we can keep track of VIN's and hopefully better determine when some were built. Compostwerks didn't have enough info provided with his to track the exact year so hopefully this may help narrow down some year breaks for production. 4.192 Perkins CJ-5 & 6 belong here. Hopefully we can keep the data somewhat organized and make some sense of it when we get enough.

    VIN 8410 10288- 1964 CJ-6 belongs to Forum member Ivhunter. Perkins was removed previously and presumed lost. replaced by SBC 350.- http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/show...-CJ-6-Pictures-and-question&highlight=Perkins

    VIN 57758 10176- 196? CJ-6 belongs to Member Compostwerks- In a rebuild state - http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/showthread.php?89193-63-CJ6-Perkins-Rebuild

    VIN 8410 10449- 1966 CJ-6 belongs to Jeepermc- Runs and drives but needs work - http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/showthread.php?105257-New-Perkins-CJ-6

    Hi Mitch;

    An excellent idea.

    Perhaps the powers that be would consider crating a sticky on the tech section so this doesn't get buried. There may be other owners who don't use the search features and have no idea others exist. The Perkins equipped CJ's may be the rarest CJ5/6 60's variants aside from the Jeep-A Trench and Go-For-Digger. Thought anyone?

    There are at least two other members (but inactive) that I recall reading threads dedicated to CJ's with Perkins engines. There may also be additional info on some other forums.

    The user Maximus78 has posted a good number of threads on his Perkins CJ5, however has not been active since 2009. I was able to open up some conversation with him I believe in 2011. He's in the Boston area near me.

    I'm very grateful to have at least one other active member who has a nearly identical CJ6. I was feeling a bit lonely for a while there :beer:

    I know what you mean. The reason I didn't post the CJ-5's like Maximus78 is that I couldn't find any VIN information on them. I'm sure they are factory perkins but without a VIN and model year it's tough to make that information useful to someone doing any research. This thread is intended mostly to help a guy like you and me find useful information on them but also be able to determine the year by VIN. I know you've had some trouble determining the year of yours because records are soo poor in general from that era. It's not a bad idea though to at least link those threads to here so this becomes a good reference. I know there was starter and clutch info from a couple different user that would be relevant to this threads intent. I'll search for them again and link them when I have some spare time again.

    Lots of pics here of a diesel CJ-5 from Firewalker- http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/showthread.php?104785-CJ5-Diesel-Pics/page3&highlight=Perkins+diesel

    Exists but not much info- User 64jeepdiesel- http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/showthread.php?94879-perkins-diesel-engine&highlight=Perkins+diesel

    Maximus78 rebuild/refresh thread- http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/showthread.php?55767-Diesel-CJ5-Rebuild&highlight=Perkins+diesel

    Starter info- http://www.earlycj5.net/forums/show...r-for-Perkins-diesel&highlight=Perkins+diesel

    If there are external links to others feel free to post them here. None of these had VIN info that i saw. Just some useful info or helpful/cool pictures.

    I have two 6's. A 1967 Perkins diesel 841010572&nbsp;and a 1963 F-head. My dad purchased the Perkins new and I got to ride home in it.&nbsp; He left the jeep to me when he passed away.&nbsp; It set for a few years so I did some maintenance on it and now it runs and drives great.&nbsp; the steering is loose so I will replace the drag link and I need a cable an know that directs the heater and defroster. My dad had a fender repaired and painted it a different color and covered the seats.&nbsp; The soft top deteriorated and he replaced it with a half cab hard top. <br>The 1963 is not running and the steering doesn't work.&nbsp; It was purchased only for the hard top which is still in good shape.
    I have some pictures but have not learned yet how to post them.

    Hi Perkd- You'll have to host the pictures on photobucket and then link them here. I'd love to see them. Yours is the latest CJ-6 i've seen now at #572. Thanks for posting!

    The best I can accomplish at this time is to build an album with pictures. Yoi can set Jeps there.

    The April 2014 issue of JP Magazine features a 66 Perkins Cj-5 on page 88. Nice low mileage stocker.

    I found the engine serial number on a tag that the previous owner let in the parts book and it does match the serail number on the engine itself;

    For those of us with the 8310/8410 prefix, here's a interesting tidbit from the 3B page. http://cj3b.info/Photos/SerialNumbers/SerialNosMonthly6567.gif I found it reading QCJeep's blog and thought it should go here too. It indicates Diesel CJ-6 production ended June of 67 with # 8410 10575. That makes Perkd's the 3rd to the last one off the assembly line. Also indicates that in total only 1721 Diesel CJ's were ever built.

    I quoted the ad for informational purposes - The jeep is in pieces but appears to be correct for a Perkins Diesel. What's interesting is the 4 speed...

    "I have for sale a early Jeep CJ5. It is pretty plain with some rust. What makes it special is this is a factory DIESEL Jeep. It came from the factory with a Perkins 4.192 diesel engine! If I am not mistaken, this is the only model Jeep CJ or Wrangler that was sold in America that had a diesel engine. There were less than 300 ever produced. They made some CJ7's with diesels, but only in Brazil. The story goes, it was originally made for the Air Force to be used as a tug, one of those vehicles that pulls the planes and cargo around the base. It was then bought by a chicken farmer in middle Tennessee and he had it for the majority of its life. It was then sold to a friend who is a diesel mechanic, which is where I found it.

    The Jeep is complete, but it is a 49 year old un-restored Jeep. The frame has a good amount of surface rust on it, but it is still in safe & usable shape. The Jeep tub does have rust, if you are going to restore it, it will need floor pans. It was on a chicken farm for most of its life, remind you, but it is by no means a rust bucket. There are little dings and scratches here and there on the tub, but overall in pretty good shape. The hood, fenders and grill are all solid. As far as interior, it has two original bucket seats, but hardly any covering left on them. The Jeep is now a black color, but looks like the original color was a baby blue.

    The Perkins diesel engine is not currently running. I bought it this way. The diesel mechanic who sold it to me bought it with a week number 3 cylinder. I just recently pulled the head to make sure there was no damage to the rotating group, which there is not. The problem is either a bad head gasket or a cracked head. This Perkins engine was also used in a very popular Massey Ferguson tractor, so engine parts are not hard to find. I know where a brand new NOS head is if it turns out to be a cracked head or you can pick up a head gasket from plenty of places. I am not worried about it. I do not see any small crack in the head, but I would have it magna-fluxed to be safe. Most likely, it blew the head gasket on the number 3 cylinder. The engine is all complete, like I said I just pulled the head a few weeks ago, but it is all sitting right there on the bench next to the Jeep. I even have the factory air cleaner, which are hard to find. The rest of the powertrain is typical early CJ5: T-98 4-speed transmission, Dana 18 transfer case, Dana 44 rear axle, Dana 25 or 27 front axle, I can't remember which one came on the CJ. It has had a spring over lift installed, it sits on about 33" tires.

    I bought this Jeep about a year ago. I had been looking for a diesel Jeep for a long, long time, but honestly I have lost interest. I also have a restored Willys M38 army Jeep sitting right next to it and I don't really feel like messing with either one of them. I just kind of got burned out on old Jeeps. I am more into the smooth ride and air conditioning now. I'm wanting to actually get rid of them both and do some traveling. I am asking $4,000/OBO for the Perkins CJ5. It is a rare bird. It does come with a clean Georgia title."
