You think someone just painted the two pieces of angle that were added to the tailgate separately, or the whole tailgate, or the whole trailer?

    Very nice!

The side board pieces were made by the PO. He did a very nice job. There are 4 pieces so I can enclose the whole trailer. Made of oak with nice hardware and plenty sturdy.
I thought the angle on the tailgate was original ????? Have to look a little closer at that.
Now, should I restore to original or paint it to match my Cherokee. I have my eye on another one that isn't so nice. I could paint it up to match my Cherokee and not feel bad about it.

No -but handy. The tailgate feels a bit flimsy IMHO.

IMHO painting the trailer a different color doesn't detract from it's value. Easy enough to paint if someone needs a 100% correct restoration. I don't there is complete agreement on exact original colors anyway.

Took a real close at tis thing a few minutes ago. The welds on those pieces of angle sure don't look factory. I also found evidence of repainting not only on the gate but below it as well.:( Consider my bubble deflated. Oh well, I still got it at a great price for the condition it's in. I guess my paint is now answered since it'e not original paint anyhow.
Think I found a Spen too but, the guy won't sell. He's not a collector, he just really likes his little trailer. Thanks for the help guys.

I don't think you should be disappointed at all...it's a great looking trailer. I'm not much of a purist though, and agree with Boyink's comments.

I gave 350 for it with no title. I'm satisfied considering that I paid 200 for a real junker that was supposed to have a tile with it ( long story, ).
I find myself becoming more of a purist as the years pass. The more advanced the daily drivers become, the more I like thew simplicity of the old stuff. Nothing to do with paint though. I think it'll end up matching the Cherokee.

    Sweet deal!
Sand blast it and it will be just like new again. The only way to clean it up properly in the hard to reach places within the frame rails.
Jeeps come and go, but this trailer you want to last for years.

Very good trailer for the price. I know of one for sale with the original bows and canvas, unrestored but complete except for the original arrow tail light, and the guy wants $3,000. That is the highest I have ever seen and I question whether it is worth the price, but who knows, the price might actually get that high in a few years. These trailers, unbutchered and without excessive rust, are becoming very rare.

Here's some photos of what you can end up with:
