I'm replacing the steering box on my jeep and I wanted to check what the proper fluid is for an intermediate.

Currently I've got it filled with "power steering fluid"
Is there any reason to change over to ATF or hydraulic fluid while I have the chance?

I'd just stick with power steering fluid. It *is* hydraulic oil, but you'll know it's right.

Power steering fluid is supposed to foam less than atf (I thought I read that on billavista in the hydro boost section)

Ford / Motorcraft power steering pumps do good on ATF, the rest you should stick with power steering fluid. I've found, particularly on cold days, when using ATF, the steering is jerky until the fluid worms up.
