Does anyone know or have a rear pto driveshaft to measure the length of? The one I’m putting in my ‘56 is about 3” too short. It has a spicer single stick pto and the rear gearbox.

Can you cut it and weld a sleeve to extend it? You could test it in place before doing the final weld.

Yes that’s what I will be doing, but I just would like to know the measurement. The ends have a little bit of movement, but not much. If it had a slip joint like a regular driveshaft, no problem. The pto driveshaft ends maybe move in and out 3/4 to 1”. Not too much wiggle room. They also are a joint like on a steering box with those square sliders in the two grooves.

I can't help with the length, but I am wondering if the difference between a flat fender and the CJ-5 the reason for the driveshaft being too short?

My thought also. Makes installation easier, too.

I bet a drive-line shop could make up a slip joint for not too much money.

My thought too, but I think the rear drive shaft (transmission to axle) is the same length between the two of them, right?

1" wheel base difference so I'm not sure without measuring.

My measurements show a 5's rear crossmember is 3" farther behind the rear axle than one on a flatty.

Mine measures just under 47". I've never had it installed and figured I'd have to shorten it since I changed to a t19 and added an overdrive.

My driveshaft measured 48”. I cut it and machined up sleeve for it out of 1-1/2” pipe.

I took an original rear PTO off my '56.
Single stick PTO, with 540rpm rear gear box.
    You're missing a part.........
PM me your phone # and I'll send you pics.

The stock CJ-5 rear pto shaft is roughly 3” longer than a Flatfender unit. Assuming you have a Spicer 18H rear output pto unit.
    The rear frame
    Length on a CJ5 is approximately 3” longer than a 2A or 3A.

That spacer lived between the end of the shaft, and the flange on the input shaft of the PTO gearbox.
Nut end of the bolts were tucked up in the crossmember, facing rearward.
Had to cut the nuts off to remove it.
Was original to my '56, took it off as the shaft was bent and gearbox bearing were bad also.
    Makes a good a paperweight.......
