Alright, got parts to make progress but waiting on some needle bearings...
yep lost one of the 14... just one
but thanks again to PbBelly for the parts, and i cleaned the bell and put it to use, once i got the 11" clutch components together.
and I am still waiting on them bearings then i can button up the trans and put it back, and i got some time to make the engine look good... :D

    don't mind the furniture,
now to make the starter work with the larger flywheel and ring gear.

shorttened the clutch throwout arm, lengthened the clutch cable, and shimmed the clutch tube over
had to shimmy the trans an inch to the pass side and most was well
    relocated the oil filter
trying to place the generator over the valve cover and have room for the high low pump.
plow mounts are a mild motor mount problem
still between f-head radiator or narrowed crossflow
then its throttle linkage, kinda forgot to think about the throttle, eying bicycle shift cable

should I weld the plow's frame brackets and add motor mounts?
or keep away from the possibility of busting the motor mount loose by making separate motor mounts.

    It doesn't show the offset engine brackets I got, but today I did get the mounts done;
1.5 x 1/8" angle that goes over the frame rail and a piece of angle inside and above the frame then a piece of 1/8 outside the frame all welded in front of the plow brackets.
driverside exhaust manifold is modified and clear of the ross steering.
decided to use a scrap section of e-brake cable for the throttle linkage, I can add a little arm to the bottom of the throttle pedal with the end of the cable.
4cyl radiator is too thick so hopefully 18" of a 3 row crossflow will keep it cool with a 15" flex fan.
passenger side heater is plumed driver side needs fittings.
    to do:
    shorten radiator
    gather fittings, clamps, and hoses
    finish throttle cable
mount the generator, hi -lo jeep pump,
    a york compressor...
exhaust... might have a shop run the exhaust thinking duel 2" but... single 2.5 is cheaper, less to ding up.
    14 days till deadline

Now would be an excellent time to get rid of the generator and install an alternator...IMO.
    Looking good!

hit a wall with the cooling situation. crank pulley is in the lower radiator hose... :(
tried narrowing the crossflow. tank turned blue, solder would not stick. so now I'm trying to use a new 65 mustang radiator and I'm stumped because i have tried moving the engine thru its little adjustment window and this is the best clearance I could get. lowered the radiator to the bellcrank mount, its got two bolts to the preshroud,
    [IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
any tips and tricks to get room for the lower hose?
    to do:
    radiator hoses
    accessory belt
exhaust (not gonna keep it from moving)
    5 days till tow

had the same problem with my Ford 5.0 install.....had a radiator shop move it over and at a angle to get clearance......think it was 50-60 dollars

that is good to know as another option, guess I'll breakout the tape measure and see exactly how much i need moved, I have a 7.3" crank pulley to overdrive the accessories on the trails but I might call and see if i could return for an underdrive pulley, I see a 4" pulley as the smallest and I should try a single groove. that would give me another 1/2" between fan and fins then the underdrive pulley could free up 1.15" and if i drop the transmission cross member a touch i might be good. I need to use some stiff motormounts to keep everything from meeting.

radiator is in. found that by keeping it tight to the preshroud on the passenger side and spaced away on the driverside i could gain that extra clearance. eventually i will get an underdrive pulley but for now it is adequate,
Patrick what kind of hose is that?
I also have a 600w lower radiator hose heater to squeeze in. my thought is to get two 90* sections and use the heater as a splice.
I think I'm keeping the generator till it dies (rebuilt +2years). It has a short water pump setup, so it will need new brackets anyway and it will be easier to keep the HI LO Jeep pump with the generator. otherwise it is alternator, brackets, electric/hydro or tee into a power steering pump.

quick cell phone video, No Exhaust but it Runs!

I parked it on the street :) therefore it is no longer at the old house, and my landlord should be happy
it didn't even take 2 months to have it moving after i ordered the first parts for the swap.
I still have the Hi Lo Jeep pump to mount before winter but @ 90* currently, i have time.
I was ambitious and decided to go ahead and ease across town with its plow cinched up tight, i guess aside from the guy 1ft from the bumper the entire way everyone should be happy and amazingly all my lights still work!!

Well got tired of doing nothin, have to recover from the costs of moving and settle in to the new abode.
never decided how to run the exhaust, thinking a single 2" driverside rear exit.

Nothing like a change in scenery,
    maybe some more black,
hinges, latches, plow, windshield frame, windshield, and something for that roof,

optimists have hopes up but the pessimist in me found a 4.3 and has the thinker turning
    85 4.3 block,
    vortec heads,
3.3 crank, a little stronger because it is not true even fire
a little cooler because it sings to a different beat
and allows for 350 rods and pistons, (more options)
fewer cam options, but it has a snow plow...

    yep

1/4" rain the night before made a muddy glaze,
it slipped on the outer bank of a pond, rolled into the forest, landed on its wheels
all three inside were buckled, well shaken, but no one was hurt.

I felt terrible because it could have been pulled back up the hill but, the jeep was already stuck
so he tried following the atv / motorcross trail
eventually the clutch was burnt up and the engine stopped running

the following day I worked my Jeep within 500ft of where it was stuck,
started cranking the come-along until it was within strap distance of jeepable territory,
how in the world is a 4 door wagon going to fit down the atv trail........
i just need to get its smoking issues fixed.
    http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?92736-smoking-engine

hopefully Tuesday i can troubleshot the jeep and get the smoke down, then return to the Forrester next week and drag it out.

opened the timing cover after noticing the crank would turn 10* back and forth before the cam would start to turn.
timing chain has some age and major stretch, then wiggling the timing chain we noticed the crank was literally flopping around within the mains,
oil was not making it to the rockers, distributor advance weights and springs are toast.
unfortunately i haven't found a rebuild kit specifically for this engine. not looking forward to dropping the pan.

time to take extra shifts at work. I gots a 4.3l to buy

    It's been an interesting journey.

This is how this next chapter of this book starts,
Soon after the death of the Chevy 200 on a cold thanksgiving eve. after the 100mile limp home, burning enormous amounts of oil that ended in a dry fuel tank and 4 rods a knocking. A young, dumb, broke, kid that worked a Wal-Mart was searching for a cheap daily driver to get to work and back. soon our young dummy found a craigslist ad "s-10, 4.3l engine: $400".
now it turns out it was a 1987 GMC s-15 with a nonrunning 2.5l 4cyl along with an 85 chevy 4.3 pulled from a c-10 and an extra bed, and fenders for $400. a not so brave kid (just really slow of senses) asked a friend to look at said s-15 and engine, soon the engine was in a trailer, and the truck was on a car dolly. the truck suffered from a delaminated timing gear, and a bad ignition switch but in the cold winter of 2011 not one flake of snow fell and soon the s-15 was up and running. the 4.3 was found to have the wrong distributor which caused the engine to run very poorly. the flexplate looked as if the torque converter was gnawing away at it. the exhaust crossover was closed off from carbon buildup. the internals were coated heavily in black soot.

...but the 4.3l engine only rested in storage.
the 4.3 rested several months, waiting, spying the dead jeep.

our young, senseless antinerd decided, The Jeep Must Run. The 4.3 block was rushed to the the Machine shop where a team of 2, the experienced grandfather and the learned Grandson took pity on the 4.3 (in exchange for financial compensation). the 4.3 was bored 0.020" over. the pistons were replaced and appropriate parts were ordered: higher compression pistons (shooting for 9-9.5:1), Rings, bearings, seals, lifters, timing set... etc... but when the cam was inspected... it was deemed... rusted. A new cam was in order. the experienced, the learned, and the senseless one agreed "this non-fuel injected engine could use more cam" and so this was ordered:
it appears to be quite... aggressive, for a plow truck.

Currently senseless one has assembled a short block, the mains have 0.002-0.0023 clearance. the rods are at 0.0015 oil clearance. the rings all have 0.021 end gap. the 200 ci engine was pulled to donate it's 11" clutch. a non-CCC Quadrajet was rebuilt, and the valves will be lapped in (because senseless one is cheap, and broke) some year there will be vortec heads with an aluminum carb intake for vortec heads. but for now it is raining and senseless one is avoiding coursework. sometime he might take pics of the shortblock so he can also post on facebook, until then he will leave you to imagine something cleaner and nicer than it is.

overlooked balance... I mean now that I've verified clearances on all 6 pistons it is time to disassemble to balance the crank.
had to call the piston manufacturer to find my new pistons (which were on the rods when i got them) weigh 675 grams with pin and according to readings the stock pistons were 745 grams. that should help get a cost estimate

    would a reasonable goal be +/- 2grams
I'm trying to figure out how fast i can turn this. stock is 4500rpm redline and 70grams doesn't seem like much, my best guesstimate is to keep it under 5000rpm... but please let me know it that is unadvised
would it be worth while to do the 2nd start on the dyno for carburetor and distributor adjustment?

hoping to paint now that I have the rest of the cast and sheet metal clean. The valves don't look great but I need to clean and inspect them. I'm hopping to grind and lap the stock valves back in. stock rockers and springs.
