I scanned the original receipt I got with the jeep. I also ended up with the original pink slip. The pink slip is dated 3 years later and it looks like the jeep was financed for 3 years at 110 a month. Pretty cool.

 

This color is nice. Sometimes I look at getting an other Jeep but my wife won't agree. If I get an other one, it is to get something better than mine. But we have very few offer and I repaired many parts on mine. The question is : what to do with a CJ5? Except driving in summer there is no use. I can use mine as a garden help, to work on trees, etc... this is not possible with a more beautiful Jeep.
If I was in a hot country, near the seaside, yes it is nice but I am not in such place.
And we have no people to repair them; we have very few CJ5 for sale, and they are expensive when clean, and with a V8. I put a link below.
For bad days, snow, I have a Audi quattro, it is enough.
The solution would be to buy a ex-french army Jeep, expensive, but with repair near my place, and all parts. Ling below too.

That's interesting because my sets have the wider stripes like these. Were your original seat stripes like these? Or the narrow one?
Mine look exactly like this. These aren't cheap @850

 

What is your build month? Early Renegade I's were narrow stripes, later Renegade I's were wide.

 

I had some time tonight to mess around on the jeep. The PO took the floors out and the tool box on the passenger side. I used some scrap to create a makeshift floor pan till I get some actual floor pans. This fix is more for safety then anything. I'll throw some sheet metal screws in and call it good for a little while.




I also was able to get some 1970 Montana plates to use so the Cali plates had to go. After two minutes dealing with old bolts I got the grinder out and got them off the easy way.

 

April 1970, I have a rear gas tank is well. There is also an AMC badge but not sure what to make of that.

I got a carb spacer from @jpflat2a and got that and my air cleaner installed. The jeep technically runs and drives but the carb needs major adjustments. Also the PO upgraded the brakes to newer drums and they pull pretty hard to the right when braking so I'll be looking at the whole brake system very soon.

The new MT 1970 plates are sweet.

 

Got the old seat belts installed yesterday. I also changed out a fuel line that was in pretty bad shape. I spent some time planning for the floor and other patch panel work. My plan thus far is to enjoy the jeep over the late summer and fall. After that I am planning to remove the tub to do the patch panel and floor work.

 

I ordered an HEI distributor for the jeep yesterday so that will be going in soon. I went for a nice drive in the jeep and it's really a fun jeep. I couldn't be happier with it.

 

Wasn't able to work on the jeep this weekend. The wife and I had a great backpacking trip into some high mountain lakes and did some fishing and exploring. Anyhow, I got my new everlast tig welder and was farting around with it for the second time and it seems to have a real problem. The regulator doesn't seem to work as the little ball only occasionally will float. I used the machine last week and it worked fine. I hope it's just the cheapo regulator because if its the solenoid in the new welder it will go back to home depot and I'll have to figure out how to afford a miller welder.

 

your ball should only be floating when the gas is flowing. If you dont have any pre or post flow (you ought to at least have a few sec of post flow) that ball is only gonna be up while your under your hood gazing at your puddle and marveling at bead after dimestack bead!

 

@3rdgenjeeper, thanks for the feedback, I do have post flow. What happens is it quit flowing through the regulator and the tungsten instantly gets hosed. This happened several times and I figured out there was in fact no flow after burying my post flow to max.

I'll try it again tonight but I a thinking it's truly broken.

Does that make sense that with no argon the tungsten cooks pretty fast? Its high frequency start so I am not sticking my tip. I was successfully laying bead on plate prior to it happening.

 

yeah man you've got a gas flow issue! the first time that tungsten lets go it's certainly memorable... silly question... but there is still gas in the cyl right? I only ask because... well a guy i know... cough... has um... at times... spent an alarming amount of time checking other things before realizing that I... he... left the tank cracked open and taint nomo argon

 

I just did some trouble shooting on the phone with everlast and it is indeed the regulator/flowmeter. It's a total cheapo one but it makes me really leary of the whole product. I am leaning towards returning the welder now since it's only a couple weeks old and been used all of three times. I see that lincoln has an affordable tig 200 squarewave that would allow me to weld aluminum if I want to in the future since it's AC/DC.

 

Yeah... there's so much good information out there on welders and almost always for us home gamers the biggest issue is between the seat and the wheel. I once watched my bro in law (a welder by trade) lay bead after perfect bead with my old Flux core mig box that I swore up and down was junk and yes I'm still using it btw...

I know when I got my tig welder, miller syncrowave 300 1970s vintage, I went through pounds of rod, hours of youtubing, and bottles of argon to get somewhat proficient... all of that to say, you know your skill level and budget constraints but a machine that is rock solid is the thing to have.
