I started to take the jeep apart today, it's kinda sad because it runs but I have to fix the rust.

My awesome drip pan floor pan fix has got to go ;) and yes the rust is as bad as it looks.

I started building a rotisserie over the weekend. I got all the steel cut and it's ready to be welded. Not much else happening on this front it's gonna be a slow project. The main goal is to put new floor pans and patch panel some other areas. I won't be restoring or repainting the jeep.

I had a few hours and I started welding the rotisserie together. I'm a newbie at welding but it's turning out ok. I did run into a problem with the round tubing not wanting to telescope and or not fitting together. I am going to go to the metal supply place and figure it out. The telescoping piece I got originally didn't fit together so I traded a metal worker friend of mine for a piece that did work not realizing the wall thickness was to great to mig weld with my 110 volt miller mig.

Here is a pic of the piece I tried welding it with my Welder set to max and it didn't seem to be penetrating. Both these tacks broke really easily.

I also had a newbie moment where my Welder was set to .023 wire and I am using .030 so I had to adjust that but it wasn't pretty for a weld or two. This is probably my best weld

I ended up getting the evo 2 saw and it cuts really nice.

You can weld thicker iron it just takes multiple passes . Put down a center weld one on the left and right sides of center weld overlapping the edges.

And that’s a wrap or so we thought? I’ve been driving the Renegade off and on for two years mostly just short around town stuff. I felt bad because it was full on Fred flintstone floor pans.

Next up is the body mounts and other various things holding the body to the frame. I’m going to have to do a search and see what the consensus is about the steering wheel, i.e. should I remove the whole box or just the wheel and lift tub over? That will become more obvious when I start to fiddle with it.

I also used eBay to get a couple of the Kelsey Hayes wheels, I needed a spare and figured spares to the spare is ok too.

The plan here isn’t a restoration it’s to fix the floor pans and have a driver quality jeep. Mechanically sound but I like the patina so I’m going to have to figure out how to meld the patina with the new floor pans and patch panels.

It’s hard to tell if the wiring is original but some of it is in rough shape.

Space is at a premium in my garage the two jeeps just fit. I really just wasn’t working on the jeep when it was over at my shop. Shop = Work , garage at home = relax.
Even if it’s cramped, plus I’m more apt to work on it at home. As long as my wife has a “path”to her stuff I’m good. (y)

Worked on the Jeep today, the plan was to remove the steering column and organize and label all the wiring that needed to be disconnected to get body off the frame and steering wheel out of the tub. Wasn’t quite enough clearance to fish the steering column and Ross box out. Between the manifold, master cylinder and the steering column bracket i just couldn’t get the stars aligned.if the tub is up a little I might be able to get it out so we’ll see when I go to take the tub off how it goes.
