Thinking about seats in the wagon...currently it has the original seats (which is nice) that have been recovered. In reality, these seats will probably remain as is for awhile, but also thinking about the big picture of what I want this wagon to be. Kind of the keep it original vs modern upgrade discussion....but wondering what seats would be a good replacement options if one wanted to go to highback bucket seats. So many wagons I see have ridiculous (obviously a personal aesthetic opinion) overstuffed, oversized buckets seats that seem completely out of place in the sparton interior. Would be looking for something simple - more like a high bucket out of a cj/yj/tj - and thinking all the standard options for swb jeeps would be the best bet:

Many of these types of seats sit a bit too high when put in an old cj - wondering if anyone has had experience with them in a wagon set-up and if they work well or not. If possible, I would like to keep the forward tip of the passenger seat so access to the rear is possible (haven't decided if I want a rear seat or not). The later cj seat brackets have the cool forward tipping contraption, but guessing that won't work with the underseat tool boxes as there won't be enough room below he seat to fit the mount. Might end up having to fabricate mounting brackets with a hinge on the front and latch on the rear kind of like a ecj5 set-up.

Maybe I didn't mention this, but if this wagon is really going to evolve into a functional driver to be used lots (maybe even a DD - and yes, that is a big IF), safety and comfort are a concern (probably more so than the cj5)....so high back seats with a 3pt seat belt is ideal. But not sure how to mount the shoulder point in the wagon as there is no roll bar and I don't want to drill through the upper side of the body....so maybe a seat that has integrated shoulder seat belts? Many of those are a bit 'overstuffed' for my tastes: Seats by Feature - Integrated Seat Belt (ISS) Seats - Seat Specialists
This one could possibly work: Transit

Again, this is kind of out in the future thinking, and the current seats will do for now (assuming I mount in some 2pt seat belts at least) - but i think there is a lot of benefit to trying to put the big picture together before diving into any one aspect too much.

I’ve thought about this with previous project vehicles and I really like the look of Chrysler Sebring convertible seats. In factory form they do look a bit “overstuffed”. In proper material and in the right vehicle, they’re great!

I'd probably consider a basic rollbar setup - enough to use as seat belt mount points. That'd free you up for smaller-scale seats, and probably be safer anyway.

Yea, I'd be surprised if it did. You'd be better off having something custom bent, IHMO.

would think the main hoop and rear support angle bars would be all that is needed - mounted to body floor....don't want it to affect egress in and out of the rear seat, although that might not be a huge concern. One of the challenges could be just getting it inside the wagon....I was thinking you could slide straight in from the rear through the cargo/tailgate, but the fenderwells that come up into the cab would block the main hoop from fitting. Its much easier to 'drop in' a roll bar from above in a topless jeep.

Yep - it might have to get welded in place. I've been watching some build videos on YouTube - they get pretty creative with getting the cages in there.

Anyobody got an idea of what a usable set of wagon seats is worth? Was browsing the Old Willys forum but couldn't find much info there....I can't access ebay at work, but that might give some idea. My gut feeling is that the front and rear benches with mounting brackets would have some value for a restoration...front and back $200 apiece?

A few years ago, I bought a front bench set, and the rear 2-piece set in good condition for $100 for all. They have a few small cracks, but no rips, though they are a bit crispy. They were a local south Florida, so pickup was easy.
I have used a set of early 2000's VW Golf high back cloth seats in one of my Wagons in the past. Very comfortable, easy to get in and out of, and cheap from the U-Pull yard. They just don't look vintage!
