I know where a Spen trailer is in NC for $400. It needs some work but it's all there. I have pictures. I was going to have it shipped up here just so I could get the original taillight and then I was going to sell it. I just want the taillight for my Spen. The Spens look like a Bantam w/ a better tailgate and are 3/4 ton rated. They are the only Willys approved utility trailer accessory, or so the ad implied. I'd rather not have to wait for it to get here. I'd subsidize the $400 purchase price by $50 as I'm getting it delivered free due to a long convoluted trade.
I've sold a few trailers here and I know many of you are far away but many times it's because you had the money for one but spent it elsewhere. You gents need to put the money aside and walk away from it and forget about the money as trailers sell pretty fast. Anyone interested? I'll look up the city in NC if you are around the area.

Here's a motivational story for Mcruff courtesy of the M101 CDN Yahoo group. The link toward the end of the story is also an interesting read.

I have just been lurking for a while and thought it would be a good
idea to contribute a travelogue of my first trip with a newly
acquired M101. I purchased it over the phone from Colorado (I live
in Florida). Although that probably sounds a little far away, it
worked out perfectly for me as I was looking at taking a trip down US-
83 from the Canadian border all the way down to the Mexican border.
US-83 is one of the last "Blue Highways" that completely crosses the
US that has not been replaced by an interstate highway. It starts up
in Westhope, ND and ends in Brownsville, TX. It is still mainly a
two lane road and isn't even close to a interstate highway. In
general, it traces the western edge of the agricultural region of the
plain states. Although it is often scenic, it is still squarely
within the productive portion of the US lands. On my trip, I left
from Florida, drove to Colorado, and picked up the trailer. While
there, I got lights installed and the bearings repacked. The trailer
condition was excellent and it towed behind my Toyota Tacoma like it
wasn't even there. I left Colorado and traveled through the
beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota and then on to the Canadian
border a few miles north of Minot North Dakota. From there, it was
all south along US-83 until the Mexican border. The M101 and Tacoma
was holding up perfectly, which would continue throughout the entire
7000+ mile trip. After getting to the southern border, I took the
side trip out to South Padre Island and then drove from there back to
    my home in Florida.

I have uploaded a Photo Essay of the trip in the "Photo" section. I
have included pictures of my trailer and tow vehicle and a bunch of
various sites I saw along the way. There are currently three pages
of photos and some of them can benefit from viewing in the LARGE
mode. Since a good many of the pictures are non-M101 related, I will
probably leave them up for a while and then delete most of them to
keep from using up all of the groups disk space.

The trip was a huge success and allowed me to check off one of the
road trips I had always wanted to take. I took some side trips along
the way (i.e. Badlands), but traveled every foot of US-83. There is
an interesting on-line travel guide for this road (also called: The
Road to Nowhere). It can be found at the following site (I have no
    relation to this site):

    Happy motoring,

I only seriously looked for a trailer for a couple of months. I happened to find my M416 on ebay. Was able to talk the guy into an early sale for $500 . Trailer was less than 3 hrs from the house and all it needed were the lights. Added a $24 trailer light kit to it and invested $30 in the tarp and bows and I am happy as a clam. It is very solid and looks good enough for now. Yes, I will eventually paint it to match The General, but it's perfect as is. Good deals are out there, you'll find one when the time is right ;)

Here you go Mcruff. About half the price of the kit you mentioned plus the adventure to pick it up. It's over 200 lbs. heavier than the M416 and with shocks. The lunette is easily converted to a standard ball hitch with an adapter. There's also a guy in NJ that bought a truckload of trailers for resale. Someone on the CDN M101 Yahoo group might know more if interested.

Lets see from my house that is roughly 2700 miles round trip at 18 mpg in my truck thats $450 in gas and a 3 1/2 day trip, not to mention taking vacation, an oil change on my truck, wear and tear on my tires and the crappy drive and all. That $750 trailer is now up to around $1250 plus the headache factor. Sorry I'll keep looking!!!!!!!

Hmmm. I'm thinking that you could prolly drop one of those tubs right onto a "kit" frame from Harbor Freight and be on your way...

Looks like I'm getting two maybe three possibly 4 more trailers. Most are Spens. I'll fill you in when I know.
I got one Spen Fri and it was painted to look military. Was in really nice shape. It sold Fri evening.
