Looks good. I'm no steering expert, but don't you want a rag joint where the shaft connects to the box?

I’m far from expert as well, but they say (whoever they is?) the u-joint is preferred.

I have the same steering shaft/slip joint on my CJ. It’s amazing how much that slip joint retracts in and out during normal driving due to the frame flexing, probably a quarter inch or better. Definitely illustrates the need for some flex in the steering shaft.

Now I guess I’ll have to weld up this hole on driver side. I guess these were where the original taillights were.

Took off valve covers. Found about a tablespoon worth of medal shavings on each side. I know this isn’t good - but how bad is it?

Metal shavings or hard carbon. Test with magnet.

Good progress this weekend. First I shortened/adjusted the brake MC pushrod.

Then installed/adjusted the AA chain clutch linkage.

Then installed fuel feed and return lines from the rear tank all the way to the pump.

What’s your opinion on the rust converter?

I have used a similar treatment (Loctite Rust Neutralizer/Treatment) that goes on white and cures black but noticed after curing that an abrasion would flake off the converter and expose rusty metal underneath, making it appear more like a paint coating than anything else.

This was my first experience with any type of rust converter. This stuff was very easy to apply, turned rusty medal into medal that was Primed and ready to paint. It is all still just in the garage and some has primer so I have no idea about durability. So far it looks like great stuff.

I think it’s sem brand right now I get whatever is at the flaps they get whatever is cheapest at the time. I will look in the morning and see what I have now. I use it on anything rusty, or recently welded on after grinding but before filler or primer.

We put the spare car in the garage while we were away. Now I’m moving everything around so I can get back to work on the CJ.

Going to hang some deer stands tomorrow then look for some progress in the next few days.

Awesome job so far! I have to go through the same, including replacing the rear floor. Question: how did you make the tunnel support arch channel? Mine is gone. Thanks!
