I was looking around for new covers for the '56 seats. I'm used to the flattys where you buy the foam padding and the cover. All it takes is a few screws to hold them down and thats it. Are the CJ5 seats something I can do myself or should I have an upholsterer do them?

Recovering is do-able, but the spring system might be difficult to reproduce. And expensive.

I replaced mine with Smittybilt lowbacks. Affordable, close to the original look, and very comfortable.

I have a set of those seats too. I have the original seat frames and springs for the CJ5.

I was wondering how long you were going to drive it with the springs poking into your back.

The drivers seat that Daryl put in isn’t bad. I feel bad for the passenger though!

The spring suspended seats have the covers held in place by hog rings. There is a special pliers to crimp them around the frame wires and springs. If all your springs and wire frames are in good condition, it should be pretty simple to install new covers, provided the covers fit well.
If the springs or frames need attention, an old-time upholsterer can repair and cover them.

Walcks has covers. We made out own but you need a decent sewing machine.
