Good morning all. I have tried searching and am either not using the correct key words or I am retarded. Either way, I know that someone here def knows the answer to this question off the top of their head. What year range of seats will work with my 71 CJ5. I am doing a full frame off restoration of a Ren1 and the PO had pulled the seats out decades ago. Any seats I get will obviously be recovered to period correct pin striping, so I just need to know how far back from 71 I can go for the seats?

    Thank you all in advance

    Eric

I think for the correct style and shape of a 1971 seat a 1970 -75' ish with the passenger backrest able to fold forward for tool box access. 1969 and earlier will work but can't say if they can be recovered to look like 1971. The top of the backrest is more rounded on early seats. I had a pair of 1968 jeepster seats in my '71 prior to finding the correct seats and they where OK but not correct for a 1971 CJ5

CJ5 seats were changed for the '66 model year to the foam cushions (previously spring cushions) with the "new" style rail mounting for the passenger side. Every couple years, tweeks were made to the to this newer style seat, but the basic construction is very similar from '66-up. Those with the same model year as yours will know the specific details.

True 1966 seats will fit in your 1971 that you say you want to do a restoration . They however will not look correct and any ecj5 buff will see the problem immediately. Just say'in covering 1966 seats with "pinstripe fabric" won't make them 1971 seats. mike

I wasn't saying that '66 seats were the same as '71 seats, but they are built with the same type of construction and mounting. I think the first couple years of AMC CJ's may have the same seats as the '71, just different coverings. It might be worth checking into this avenue.

Thank you all for your valuable inputs. I found an OEM set out of a 69. From your responses I should be good with these correct? I am wanting to send them to Jeepster guru for recovering.

If authenticity is required, check with members who have '71 model years for photos. There may be differences from the '69 seats. I'm sure the '69 seats will fit and function, but I don't know the differences, if any.

Donny, thank you for your and everyone else's thoughts on this. These are from a 69 donor CJ5 I just bought... also including a pic of survivor seats in a Ren1. From what I can see it looks as though I will be good.
