When I removed my Ross steering box from my 63 CJ5 (4 cyl) there was a shim between the steering box and frame. The reason I am asking is just about every bit of information I have looked at for reinstalling the box does not mention a shim. Most people that I’ve seen installing the box just bolt it directly back to the frame with no shims. The shim is rectangle in shape with a half moon notch cut out on one end. It’s approximately 1 inch wide by 1.5 inches long.

Once you get the tub lined up on the frame and bolted together you then mount the steering and bolt it to the dash with it's rubber bushing. Note the angle of the Ross box and the frame. There will likely be a slight space between it. That is what the shim is for. Once the shim is installed and the Ross box bolted tightly to the frame you should be able to spin the steering wheel very easy. (with link removed)

Thank you so much for the reply. It makes perfect sense. I knew it had to be there for a reason.
