When I put my oil pump in my motor I practiced a couple times to get the distributer timed right to have the rotor in the right position before finally installing it. I can't remember exactly why I did it that way, that was 10 years ago, but it came out correctly pointing in the right way. The wires are the way the FSM shows them. That motor looks like number one cylinder has never fired to me, there is no smoke on the valve? Good buy though, worth the money. good Luck with it.

Ok I still have to engine haven't started it yet but I have went through it and found no damage. I removed the oil pan last weekend and found the lock washers to be missing on the rod caps. I removed them one by one and inspected the bearings and found no damage. I reinstalled the caps with new lock washers I torqued the rod caps to 50ftlb instead of 45ftlb I didn't realize I looked at the wrong manual. I used the M38A1 manual instead of the civilian one am I in any danger of damaging the rod bearings? I'm really thinking about pulling the pan again and re-torquing the rod caps.

No real difference in the actual engine, AFAIK.
