the weather set me back last week, but I hope to get started on my SPEN trailer rebuild this week. So far I have separated the rotted tub from the frame and had frame sandblasted. There is a lot of frame rot to be fixed before I move to the tub. I bought Jeep wheels to match my jeep and plan to use adapters on the original axle to adapt the 5x 4.5 to 5x5 bolt pattern.

I don't have the skills or money to do a 100% authentic restoration , but I acknowledge the rarity and uniqueness of the trailer so want to respect that while getting it roadworthy and suitable for my needs. If I could find an unmolested 416 or bantam I would, but this is all I could find in my price range.

After I fix up the frame, I plan to turn to the tub. It's pretty bad and I'm inexperienced in sheet metal work. Does anyone know if / Where I might be able to find some CAD files for the body panels? I am taking an advanced welding class and have access to. CAD plasma cutter and some other goodies along with the stick and MIG welders.

    here's what I'm starting with:

and heres some of the frame rot I need to work on:

might actually get out to the m416 with the tape and calipers.
    too darn cold recently
I assume you'll be starting with the frame, using c-channel

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the M416 is slightly different specs than the Spen. My spen matches the specs on the earlier M100 bantam trailer, however. In talking to a machine shop about replicating my tub, I think the most difficult part to replicate was the stiffening indents along the sides. You don't say where you are located but I have the tub panels for mine still if you want to reference them. I'm in VA.

Johnny- I'm in MD, so I've thought about paying a visit. My panels aren't TOO bad. Just rusted at the bottoms where they meet the floor.

JW- Yes, I am starting with the frame. I cut the tub off of the frame and am reworking it. No C-channel, welding in flat stock and cutting out certain parts. Overall, the frame is OK, but I'm new to welding and using this as my class project. So a lot of grinding involved as my welds still need practice!!

My biggest issue is the gate. It is COMPLETELY done. And if I build a new one, I want a full height one like the 416s to make it easier to cover the trailer and keep water out.

I have the original tailgate from mine that I won't be using at all as well....but if you want a full height tailgate you're going to have to weld some "wings" on the back side of the tub or go with a bantam tc3 type of tailgate.

What kind of shape is your gate in? (Checked your thread, but can't find any pics) Price? Might be interested in that.
