Any recommendations on best tool for spot facing the backside of a knuckle for the knuckle stud conversion? I will have to do this on a drill press - not a mill or lathe. I basically see some flat ended boring bits that could work:
Boring Bar Set with 1/2 in. Shank, 9 Pc.

And then the bits with the centering or pilot tip:
    McMaster-Carr
    https://www.amazon.com/AccusizeTool...RY558JM/ref=pd_lpo_2?pd_rd_i=B00RY558JM&psc=1

Any recommendations on better option for spot facing, and possible future use for actual counterboring for recessing bolt heads?
    thanks!

I have a set of piloted counterboring bits. I think they came from MSC and are just HS steel.

At one time I had one I made specifically for this job. If I can find it you are welcome to it.

Thanks Mike - If you can find it, I'd definitely be happy to use it. I can also then pass it along to anyone else that might need to do this project.

Didn't find it tonight but I have about 6 more toolboxes to go thru. I haven't used the darn thing since around 2007-08. I don't usually toss this kind of stuff so its just a matter of finding it.

Pretty sure I have the one I bought to do mine. I may have some extra bolts too, I'll have to look around.

Found the bit, send me an address to mail it to. The pilot is like .330 dia. and the spot face is a little over 5/8" in dia.

James - let me know when your done with it. I may borrow it to do a set here I've been kicking around. Try it on the new mill when I get back going.

James are you planning to do both jeeps or just the CJ5?

maybe....I have a pack of 25 button head bolts ready to go, so in theory I could do both. The cj is priority, but the wagon may get done if/when I swap the backing plates - I have 11" bendix style self-adjusting backing plates that I think will run on the wagon in place of the 11" wagner manual adjust.

I'm supposed to have at least two - two hole knuckles around here, maybe 4. I remember 2 boxes, but don't remember if I had one or two in the box. I'll be doing them and knuckles for the other side when I do it. I've got a driver that snapped when my oldest rolled his '46 that I'll be fixing.

When I get into it, I'll let you know James and maybe do a set with spares if I have them for you.

Chuck - if you have an extra 2-hole knuckle sitting around...I'd take it. No rush right now, but if I ever get the ross swapped out for a manual saginaw, having a little extra leverage on the 2hole knuckle would probably be really nice. thanks!

First in line for them - I'll probably only keep one as I prefer the D30s and have a couple of them to build as well as a couple sets of D44 waggy axles.

Damn - I need to get well and retire so I can get some of this stuff done...
