Spring tie plate torque specs?

    I have the hanes manual, but i can not find what the torque specs are for the nuts on the u bolts around the axles. Can someone help?

    people around here go only 30-40 , I like them alot tighter........... and my jeep twists up just fine.

    What diameter are your U bolts? 1/2" U bolts ought to be about 70lbs...

    actually I just looked back at the thread in question and I had spring plates and shackles wrong in my mind.

    They are 1/2 inch. So consensus is 80?chainsawguy

    The FSM for my 80 CJ-5 (1/2-20 Ubolts) says 55 ft. lbs.

    If teh book says 55 and most go to about 80 ill go to 70. Thanks to all.

    Be sure and re-torque after you have run it for a while just in case of settling in takes place.

    Make sure they are tight enough or it will end up like mine! Was like this when I bought it. My rear dana 44 axle tube
