Hey Guys. I have a 66' CJ6 with the stock Ross steering. The Jeep has 57,000 original miles, and has always had stock, (225's), small tires on it. The steering feels fine. But the other day, my oldest boy was hoping up and down on the front bumper for fun, and I heard a knocking sound. So I later got down and got it bouncing until I located the sound. I tried to tighten the nut on the end, but it didn't seem like it wanted to tighten back up. Thanks for the help!

That's a lot of play you have there, you might need some replacement parts. just so you know, the big bolt wont turn unless you remove the other bolt thats mounted at a 90 degree angle to the big bolt. Loosten up the clamp bolt, tighrten up the nut on top and see if it helps you. Of course, retighten the clamp bolt.

Hello Blue CJ6, I too have a Ross steering on my 67' CJ6. It also has the 225 V6. When I purchased the jeep it had a 2.5" lift and 31x10.5 tires. I've since replaced all steering linkage, rebuilt Ross box, removed lift and will be running 215x75R15. Haven't had a chance to drive it yet, hoping all the work was worth it.
What as your issue exactly? What parts did you replace?

The complementing nut for that is under the radiator and a bitch to get at. It's 1 1/16" maybe? If your hoses are flexible enough you might want to unmount the radiator and move it backwards to get at that from the top.

I just did that on my 59 f134 cj5 and the nut wasn't really that hard to get to. Yeah it was tight but not so bad as for me to go through the extra trouble of removing the radiator.

Hey. Thanks guys for the replies. I was hoping that maybe I could just re-tighten the unit and not have to buy a kit and start replacing stuff. I haven't had time yet to peek under the radiator to see if the nut is still there. Hopefully it is, and I can just re-tighten. Maybe a lock washer on top under the nut would keep it from re-loosening?

Last night I went out and checked out the system on my Commando before I replied. That top nut might not be the easiest thing to get a wrench on but you should be able to do it without messing with your radiator. Yep, I rebuilt mine about 5 years ago.

Hey Guys. Had some time to tighten it up today. Not bad at all. Tightened right up holding the nut on the top. Thanks a lot for your input.
