Got my T150 torn down. I tore it down because it would pop out of 1st gear when under any torque unless you held the shifter down in 1st and I had the Jeep fully torn down already.

These are the only 2 questionable pieces i could find that arent in my overhaul kit.

    Reverse idler and 1st/reverse synchro.

Im definitely replacing the reverse idler but am curious if this synchro looks normal as far as wear goes.

Figured I would get some more sets of experienced eyes on these things.

I would not expect rounded-off teeth would make it pop out of gear. I'd attribute that to abuse; shifting into reverse when the gears are still spinning. It's a straight-cut gear and there is no helical force to push them apart.

Is there a bushing inside 1st where it rides on the main shaft? With the T-90, it can pop out of 2nd when the internal bushing is worn; the gear skews on the shaft when decelerating and pushes the synchronizer away from the synchro teeth on the gear. The teeth on the blocking ring line up with the synchro teeth on the gears, and these can be worn.

Looks like the reverse gear is also the synchro hub. If the matching notches were worn, it could come away from 1st gear and disengage 1st. Did you check the end play when you were taking the transmission apart? There is an end play adjustment that the diagnostic chart refers to.

Didnt think to. It does mentuon it for buildup and since i was replacing all the thrust washers didnt take any tear down measurements.

Dont think there's a bushing. Just 2 machined surfaces with oil grooves.

Sorry, I would have suggested it, but this is the first I've looked closely at the T-150 in the TSM.

Or trying to drive it like a 4-speed! When I take my 3-speeds for inspection, I put a PostIt on the dash with the H-pattern clearly labeled.

Take a close look at the synchronized teeth on first gear and inside the first gear synchronized wear. Very common for these to wear and load will for e them to separate. Was the transfer case input gear nut tight when removed? If not it can allow the 1/R synchronizer assembly to walk back and forth on the mainshaft causing it to jump out of first. Also check the 1st gear shift form for wear, the detents in the shifter top for positive engagement, and check the pins, shift lever slots, and shifter top holes for wear.
The wear you show on the reverse gear components is a problem that should be addressed but will not cause it to jump out of first gear.
Also check the thrust washers and thrust surfaces for the counter (cluster) gear. Excessive wear can allow it to walk back and forth.

I ordered new synchronizer plates and springs. Comparing mine to picutres of new ones my 1/R plates look worn. So ill go ahead and put all new plates and springs in.
