Guys are these the only differences, that being that, the front shafts and carrier tube are the only thing different between the two

I toasted my v6 tranny recently and have two spare 4 cylinder trannies with the shorter front shaft and carrier tube that holds the front bearing in place. Is this interchangeable ?

I never saw a comparison between the two WITH part numbers

I tried to adapt my t-90 myself. I bought the longer input shaft and made the adapters for the bell housing and bearing retainer with the modifications for the chevy T/O bearing. It all worked fine on the table. It worked in 1st an 2nd for about 5 miles under power and that was it. I know I did something wrong as the synchro was basically welded to the input shaft on disassembly. The above AA kit would be totally worth it if worked correctly.

I hope someone chimes in with precisely what is needed to adapt a 4 cylinder t-90 to a buick bell housing for the 225. T-90s are fine transmissions.

I have the T-90 with the J input shaft and install the T-86AA bearing retainer with the T-86AA adapter re-drilled for the T-90 bolt pattern. This allows for the standard 225 clutch disk and PP with the standard 225 T/O bearing. Mine has worked good for several years now.

Must use the early shallow Dauntless bellhousing # 9774035
Or possibly use the BOP # 9773320 bellhousing.
Must use the T90 j input shaft.
Must use some form of adapter plate which must be 2-5/8" thick.
The "Transdapt" adapter plate looks and fits the best.

Tarry99 Of course you are in freaking California, I don't want to say no but I just do not know enough yet.

Walt, tommycj, and oldtime thanks What parts are in which case? Which numbers are on which case? No internal parts when assembled show part numbers? What case numbers mean what? What dimensions go with what parts?
47v6 I was hoping that I was not the only curious one

unkel Dale, to reply to your PM. I don't have access to part numbers like oldtime so maybe he will chime in as well as others. This has been talked about a lot on this forum I know ken (oldtime) has worn out a keyboard or two on the part numbers for the modifications and swap-in parts needed for putting a T-90a behind a 225V6. Your PM said you no longer have your T-86AA pieces but did you by any chance keep the input and output bearing retainers?

T90 a1 for four cylinder will NOT WORK HERE. The front shaft is 6 spline and .94 inches ..wrong spline and length and diameter!

To add to this, I SENT A PM to Walt and he gave me the goods correctly there in the pm.

You all reading this here need to pay attention to OLDTIMES response, that is correct now that I did research through the NOVAK website and understand what he was writing there for us.

My goal here is to get the 9774035 bell housing, the 2 and 5/8 spacer plate and the t86 AA out of the Jeep with the freaking transfer case and cross member on one side of the work bench ( wait for the report where it all fell through the top of the bench ) and the t90a1 with the 10 spline 1 and 1/8 diameter front shaft on the other half, WHICH MAKES IT A j MODEL? Right?

With two different colored wire on paper tags attach to each part on each part as they are dissembled and numbered with the NOVAK exploded view part numbers from their site picture as a reference. I want to eliminate the confusion of cross part contamination with the tags because I am not doing this in one day, and usually I am not that smart sometimes. Make a plan then work the plan... that is all for now, carry on!

If your original transmission was a T86 AA you are in luck.
T90-J internals can readily be re-assembled inside the empty T86AA case.
In this way you do not need an aftermarket 2-5/8" thick bellhousing adapter.
Just re-use the original T86AA cast bellhousing adapter plate.
It is 2-5/8" thick and it already indexed to fit the bores.
You will also need to re-use the T86AA rear bearing adapter to fit your BIG HOLE (4" index bore) D18 transfer case.
