It has to be a T-90J with the long input shaft, used in the Utility Wagons and early J-series. T-90A from a CJ has the wrong input shaft, and a T-90C from a CJ has all the wrong ratios and won't match the long input shaft. You can buy the long input shaft if you have a T-90A.

On second thought, the T-90 gears may work with the T-86 input shaft. I don't know. The T-86 input shaft should mesh with the T-90 gears, but I can't say for sure. Herm sells complete T-86 replacement transmissions with T-90 gears ... he would know. If you call him as a potential customer and ask some questions, I expect he will tell you.

Likely Ken (oldtime) or Nick (nickmil) would know for sure. Maybe one of them will see your post and answer, or you could reach out to them if they do not answer here within a few days.
