the tail lights that came on my Bantam fit thru the hole opening and were bolted to a U-bolt type strap that was tack welded to the panel.
I eliminated them 3 years ago.
I got a surprise when I went to mount LED rubber mounted lamps; the holes are larger than most tail lamps; in other words, the whole lamp fits thru the hole.
I have mounted some flanged lights, but they are, well, tacky.
Anyone have any ideas as to what will mount back in/thru the holes ?
I really don't want to go back to the u-bolt strap type for mounting.
Anyone have pics of their trailer lights ?
    thanks

Mine are mounted the same way yours were. I have no clue as to whether that's original.

Went very basic on mine, just angle iron butt-welded to the frame:

Yea, so did mine originally. But they were hacked up pretty bad. The early bantams used a tubular side support instead, I copied that approach just with square tubing instead of round.

But you could still mount lights the same way, just positioned to show through the existing hole.

BTW - my tailights are the standard Wal-Mart round lights, same as the Jeep has.

Can you weld sheet metal in and cut the holes again?

If you email me your email address I can send pictures. The original taillight is very hard to find. I have only found one original and a few of the same manufacture but it's a later design. Looks pretty close. I'll take some of the later style mounted.

Jim - What about the military lights on the Hummer? I've seen a couple of styles that sit inside a recess part especially made for the lights. Just Google "composite military lights".
