I'm going to mount a used Warn X8000i on my trailer but I'd like to quickly remove it when not needed. A receiver-type mount might work but I'm not comfortable with that on the deck, which I'd like to remain flat. Quick release would be good. Any ideas?

Not sure how to visualize your trailer.

But if you use a removable change-of-direction snatch block, you can mount the winch underneath, to one side, or wherever.

Or, what about a vertical receiver, flush to the deck?

Hadn't thought of a vertical mount. I'm putting a box on the front after removing the brace. It might fit between the box and the front rail. Maybe on an upright, well braced. Somehow...

On all my trailers, I put a receiver on the deck for the winch. I don't like having it permanently mounted or having it sit out in the weather. I can post some pictures of what I did to my other two. You can see what I did to the one I'm trying to sell now. It is right behind the box.

So, I took the easy way out but almost screwed up, at least for the first trailer load. I chose the easy path and just put a received on the deck. But when I loaded the late FIL's truck (soon to be my daughter's) today, it barely fit before the winch was all in. The front tires are all on but not an inch to spare. Lucky me. But this will work.

HF box and receiver with the discounts (25% and 20%). Winch mount from TS. Battery at FLAPS full list. :) Not sure where I'll keep the battery. Inside the box for long periods will kill it in short order. Probably just put it in the box when needed.

I got a coleman solar charger from tractor supply for my trailer. I leave the battery in all summer and never have to charge it.

Thought of that but our summer temps around here can be brutal. As often as I use it, moving the battery as I need it might not be such a bad deal.

I built the receiver mount for my trailer winch off the tongue so it's ahead of the deck. It strengthened the tongue and opened up quite a few options.

Only a 3500 lb winch but with a snatch block, I can get most things on the trailer. The light mounted on the fender is hooked to the backup lights. The one mounted on the front has a manual switch. I simply use a long pair of jumper cables to run the winch.

My set up. Harbor freight 12000 Lb and one of their small solar panels. Inside my free tool box, mounted to the A frame. Works great and the wireless remote works all the way to the end of the cable. Can't tell you how much I like the wireless. It makes it a one man operation, even it the Jeep doesn't run, you can get in and steer it up, using the remote.

Just wondering about the temperature situation. I like that box design, but obviously a dark color soaks up heat. What if you put some kind of reflective covering on the lid and a vent on each side of the box? I would think after that the temperature couldn't be any worse than being under the hood of a vehicle.

Nice set up. This is what I was originally thinking about, sorta' kinda'. But I didn't want the box to be outside of the frame rails in case of jack knifing. I've had to back the trailer into plenty of tight spaces and wouldn't want to dent either the box or my bumper. Since my winch is now removable, it doesn't make a lot of sense to keep a battery in the box all the time. I may just run a charge wire from the trailer plug to keep it charged when out and about.

The tongue on the trailer is pretty long as is the bar I use on the ball, so its not to bad. Did put a dent in it, but to be honest, I went where I should not have. I've cut it pretty sharp without a problem, but it will hit the bumper if pushed to far. I didn't want the box up n the deck, as I load a tractor once and a while and the bucket sits against a little header that you can't see under the box. The tractors weight is perfect where that sits.

relatives trailer I frequently use we rigged up a receiver so winch is removable and ran winch leads to 50amp anderson connectors that join a second set of leads that run to tow vehicle battery (or any adjacent vehicle) via jumper cable clamps to supply winch power. Welding lead cable or any fine filament copper wire is good.
