The clutch is starting to slip in my '74. I was looking around and was about to order the Centerforce stage two when my friend who owns a 4WD shop told me that the Centerforce does fine until it gets dirty or muddy. He told me to go with a stock clutch from 4wd Hardware. Has anyone had experience with either of these kits? Thanks

I have a centerforce on my 74 behind a 360 and it works just fine. I picked it over the stock clutch just because I have a bit more HP up front. If you dunk your truck in the mud and clutch in/out your gonna get slurp between the clutch plate and flywheel and no matter what you have you will slip. Clean 'em out and you'll be fine with either clutch.

The Centerforce II and the Dual Friction are at their best in a high rpm application.
They are more expensive and not a good value for a CJ application.

The Centerforce I is a very good clutch for offroading and works well in a CJ application. It isn't quite as expensive as the other Centerforce units. Many of the guys running the 225 V6 run the Centerforce I, as I have since 1995 :)

The stock clutch from 4WDH should be just fine as well, and should be less expensive than any of the Centerforce units.

I went ahead and ordered the stock clutch from 4WDH. I couldn't see spending the extra money on something that wasn't going to work as well or better than the stock unit. Thanks for your input
