A little late to the game but what did you end up using for trim rings? I am at this point and am looking for some ideas. The picture with the patterns on the back reminds me of making custom sheetmetal fittings for HVAC back in the day. great work and beautiful project!

    Thanks!
I made the trim rings from a sheet of aluminum from an old stop sign. I just cut 5/8” wide rectangles and screwed them down on the corners. If this was going to see trips in the rain, I’d probably have put some 3m 2-sided trim tape on both sides of the fabric to seal it.

Ah I was thinking for the top lol. Did you put them on upside down and then seal them with a clamp and roll them over? I've got the floor plates handled.

Oh sorry! Yeah, inside-out, tip on first, and I used a zip tie to hold it, then folded down around it.

I’m cleaning the shop and decided it’s time to file away all the templates I made to build this thing. I laid most of them out on the 4x8 bench to get a pic. (I found another pile of them after this shot.) Some of the small generic tab templates got chucked along the way.

Did you make it for ice cream before it went under the winter tarp?

LOL, no, it was tempting, but I’m not getting tags until spring.

The weird part is, there are only two pieces in that whole bunch that I can’t remember what they’re for.

Edit. I just remembered one of them.

Package it up and sell it - Jeep in a crate, some assembly required.

This whole discussion about templets could move to the "cant throw it away" thread. The only way your going to need any of those is if you total the Varg. Even then your going to want to make it different.

I’d debate that. I’m pretty freakin pleased with it, and designing the templates is 4/5 the battle. If a piece or part gets FUBAR’d, grabbing the template out of an envelope is a lot easier than redesigning the wheel.

Well I would certainly be happy with it as well. Hope we never have to find out!

Now that you have the templates, you should be able to whip out a second one in a few months.
