Substitute any family friendly, fortuitous, funky or fiendish adjective when frustrated and on your forty fourth flipping frequent flight to and from but while there you might take time to smell the frankensense fresheners and find a fully fitted fluorescent formed filter while forking over more franklins... Ok, I'm fast fuming out of ffffffs... But most of the folks I've met there are indeed friendly and will help find the frankenparts that haunt your festivities... Btw... Festivius approaches.

Wish my local stores were more friendly too. Most don't know the difference between a spark plug and an air filter.

Gotta find the one with Old Guys behind the counter that remember what "points" were, and "carburetors." Most of them owned a Jeep at some time.

Pffft. Guys at one parts store I frequented used to almost have fistfights to see who had to wait on me

Another store just let me behind the counter to look up my own parts. It was faster for all concerned and I got the right parts the fist time :)

Ive tried the one with these old dudes one looks like ZZ top long grey beard and all. They seem to be pretty knowledgeable and none of their employees are under 40. They are a great place to go most times and know their stuff, but downside to them is any and everything they don't have in stock they charge you freight. and last time I was in they ordered me a manifold gasket for my Lhead in my cj2a and wanted $55 dollars for it and their was no package at all and even they didn't have a clue to the brand of it. I wasn't going to pay that much for a no brand part when I knew jeep suppliers sold basically same for $5 dollars. Instead I went to Napa and paid $8 for a Fel-Pro brand manifold and heat riser gasket both and had it next day and no freight charges.

But problem with napa I have to do their job for them on these old jeeps, which I don't really have a problem with since most of them head for the computer when I need something and when they grab the book I have to tell them they just grabbed the book that says "GM 1970's and newer" they have basically told me don't come back without a part number to cross reference ( they know I have a parts book for my jeeps)

    Lucky,
I can only go behind the counter when the manager is there... I am greeted when I walk in by MR. O'Reilly when I walk into O'Reillys. No discount though I have tried.

Note to self do not tell auto parts store if I obtain a parts book.

Thanks for asking. I aways assumed that it was f-bomb lazy auto parts store. So much of what I work on isn't on the computer and for so many of them that is the end of the search. Used to a place that keep the old parts books from more then 30 years ago and they could find something where others couldn't. Its now a furniture store.

Worked a NAPA 35 years ago. Everything was catalogs and I could find anything. Computers in the auto parts business are not necessarily a good thing.

I miss that from my hometown FLAPS. I spent 17 years as a parts guy, and having to deal with counter people just makes me nuts....
