What Were The Options On A 1970 Renegade

What were the differant options found on the Renegade for 1970? Were some of them available on the standard CJ5?

Are you asking what options you could get in addition to the Renegade package, or what came in the Renegade package? The initial Renegades '70-72, and to a lesser extent '73, included stuff that was not available from the factory option list. This included stripes, special colors, special wheels, roll bar, OP and amp gauges. Some things, like HD springs and shocks, HD alternator, HD frame were also on the regular option list. This was diluted as the years went by, so that the Renegade package was pretty much just stripes and wheels by 1974, and everything else could be picked alacarte from the regular option list. Also, some of the equipment like the roll bar and tire carrier (for 1970) could be purchased from the Jeep Approved Special Equipment list and either come from the factory or be dealer installed.

I found a build tag behind behind driver side headlight which included some codes that I believe were options
D5262 is the build code for a Baja Yellow Renegade II that would include the options shown in timgr's link posted above.

Now, under that code on a renegade II ours shows:

970A Safety Package (assuming padded dash and seat belts)
312 V6 Engine (part of Pen II Package)
013A Cig Lighter (optional? Standard on all Jeeps? Standard on Renegade II?}
362 is Fuel Vaporization System (I believe this may have been California and other smog States only and included timing events (prestolite dist), charcoal canister, air pump, vacuum and fuel tank return lines, in part or total). IDK if the heat stove and duct to aircleaner were part of this, or standard on all.

I can imagine some of them were optional on other CJ's including the v6, and some (alloy wheels stripes n/a)
Was a draw bar standard, or optional? With the fuel tank located under the rear of body safety standards may have required it? <- unverified

 

OK, thanks for the input. I ask this because my 1970 has the left side amp and oil pressure gauges. These could have been added later. The pin sripe seats, heavy springs, 4.88's with tracloc and what could be original roll bar. It does not have the oil pan skid plate or padded dash. Was the frame different on the Renegade in March of 1970?

Oil pan skid plate was on the Renegades and yes the frame was partially boxed or strapped on the Renegades. My 71 is not a Renegade but did have the Amp and oil gauges, ashtray with lighter and had the pinstriped seats. All dealer installed I think.

 

The iron-clad, water-tight identification of a Renegade I or II from remnants of its original Renegade equipment has been discussed a lot here. This is the earliest thread I recall - Attn: Renegade I owners - the thing about the resistors or plug on the firewall is what I recall. A paint and trim tag with a 999 paint code would be definitive, I believe. Unfortunately these tags were made of embossed foil and glued to the passenger side firewall in those days, and are usually lost.

You got a LSD with the Renegade, but I expect you could still pick an axle ratio of 3.73 or 4.88. (The 4.88s are the desirable ratio today).

As Mike points out, any of this stuff could have been ordered through the dealer parts network and installed on a customer's Jeep at purchase time. Adding features/options/accessories at purchase allowed the cost to be rolled in to the financing, and was very common.

 

The only way to tell if the dash gauges were factory or not is to remove or loosen one of the gauges and look for the notch in dash sheet metal for the 6 o'clock notch.
Dealers or other installers won't have that notch in the dash to keep the gauge from spinning in the hole.
