It was an off-road package that actually ended up being one of the best deals going for the wrangler. If I remember correctly, you got dana 44's and a lot of the rubicon goodies, without the rubicon pricing.

I originally thought it was pretty hoakey given how far from a willys the wrangler has become, but it's a good platform to build a wheeler out of.

The Willys Wheeler. I thought about ordering one before I decided to buy a used Rubicon.

I think it comes with 3.73 axles vs. the 4.1 in the Rubicon.

A local club member got one a few years ago and yes, its got the D44 front and rear, 4:1 Roc-trac TC, but doesn't have the lockers that Rubi came with. Can't remember if he had only a rear locker, but I think it was just a LS in rear (and maybe front)....Guesssing the LS was a trac-loc. If you didn't mind doing some work yourself, I think it was the cheapest way to go to get the D44 and 4:1 TC, then you could install the lockers yourself (or even pay someone else to do it) and come out way ahead compared as the Rubi was like 8k more (iirc?). TThe Willys version did not have the automatic sway bar disconnect either. Gearing may not have been as good as the 4.10s in the Rubi either....The Rubi also came with with higher stock suspension/tire size, but if you were building it much, you were probably going aftermarket lift with 35-37s anyway. I think the biggest issue was the axle gearing, but if truly going to 35-37s, even the 4.10s might not have been enough, so for the bigger build, saving the cost up front paid for a lot of the bigger mods needed anyway.....

By the time you add all that stuff up, you may as well buy the Rubicon. 35's fit with just a 2" lift and that sway bar disconnect is really great. The 4.10 gears and the 3.6 is a marginal relationship at best, lockers or not. It would be about hopeless off road with 3.73 gears and really needs 4.88's or 5.13's-but there goes some more of your already dismal mileage. That Willys moniker on a JK/JL still makes me want to puke.

These couple of guys were building more than a stock rubicon...I didn't price it all out, but I kinda of understood what they were trying to say. If you are going to go with 4.88 gears and add selectable locker of choice, it doesn't necessarily matter what you starting gear ratio is. I don't know how the OEM rubicon e-locker is compared to the standard aftermarket, but I've not heard much bad about them. Most of the guys around here like the AEV stuff on their JKs - lots of them running around with 37s on 4 doors....I bought (used) the 'high end' TRD off-road set-up on my tacoma - it works great. With a small lift it would be even better, but its also my DD so it goes as is. But I kind of get that if I really wanted to build it with 37s and lock the front, SAS, 4.88+ gears, cut the body, replace all the suspension and steering etc....maybe it better to start with something cheaper if you are going to be replacing all the components? I've never even ridden in a JK or priced one out in any way, so what do I know....A stock rubicon with small lift and 35s (I'd like a 2dr JL like that) would run everything around here - it wouldn't fit in with the rest of the crowd.
