On the lower corner of the passenger side of windshield I have a decal that includes california emission info. Do other states have a similar decal? Is this decal reproduced?
Curious as this one is severely fractured into several pieces that have drifted apart.
If not I may try to replicate it.

Not a factory sticker on the windshield. My guess is an inspection sticker or simply something someone added. There may have been an emissions sticker on top of the grill in the latch area. Not sure on a '71. I'm pretty sure '72 and up had them.

Mine did not have anything like that, sold here in Wy. I had the air pump, but not a lot of the other stuff yours had. I am like other folks and think it was just a Calif. thing at the time.

In my quest to get this back to near stock I may try to get one replicated.

Ever wonder why starting up a old jeep can be a tear inducing event?

I doubt that NCRenll's sticker would apply to your '72, as I can read "V6 225" on the second from bottom line. The '72s would all have AMC engines by that point.
I don't recall ever seeing these emmission stickers back in the day.

I do not know if jeeps had these stickers at time of purchase, but I do know that BMW had them on the Drivers Door glass bottom Right for the early cars up thru 1973 I think as I was a profession BMW mechanic in the day. The stickers told you what the emission standards were in California vs Fed and the average readings of the model that the sticker was attached to. Question, does your sticker show average readings or what as I can not read your post. Thank you for your time

The jeep is a 71 model built in march of 71.
I recall seeing decals of this sort occasionally on vehicles during the time. I worked in gas stations through high school and washed many windshields.
I can only imagine it's California regulations were a little more restrictive than the federal at the same time. I also wonder if it has something to do with this it's intended use as a passenger vehicle, vs commercial because at the time California had less emission restrictions on trucks/utility/ and other "commercial vehicles". Previously discussed in another thread this jeep has a car license number sewuence rather than a truck (commercial). I think it's because it has a back seat with belts and a rollbar.
Back in the day truck were often the only vehicles available with big blocks. It was common for Dodge, Ford, Chevy, even Jeep and IH to have motore in excess of 400 C.I. late into the 79's when cars big blocks were phased out earlier.
This decal is very opaque and installed in that lower right corner where it is legal to have obstructions to drivers view.
This jeep keeps on delivering surprises.
I found this: (New) 911 S California Window Emissions Decal - 1971-75 a similar decal for porsche 911s in the description it states: Stickers are installed on the inner side of the left quarter window.
With no quarter windows the windshield was likely the only option.
and, 1971 Camaro Emission Decal, 200, After January 1, 1971, California a windshield decal for use on chevys built after jan 1 1971.

I think that in the early days of emission regulations and especially California and there CARB was driving the industrial world on air pollution they wanted customers to see the difference at how much cleaner California cars were and the bay area and LA were a big market/ customer base. I knew a Lawyer who was very much in the early legal side of the issue in the 70's and he shared many a story of early pollution control. It is interesting our vehicles are producted approx. 6 months apart and yet this was a huge transition time. My vehicle has many of the same parts of the 1971 model. Noteable is that my vehicle engine was producted on the 22 Aug 1971 , as was many of the castings were mid aug and a few, like bell housing was a July production date. My Vehicle has a Dana 44 off set track lock , with 4.88 gears, I will continue to look for a window sticker if I can. I hope to get as close to original as I can, Just for fun

I think you might find a radiator cowl version on ebay or from one of the vintage repop sticker folks. That seems acceptable, but I'd prolly avoid sticking it on the radiator cowl.

Personally, in the state of idiots here, I don't want that on my rig. Some knuckle dragging idiot might want you to then smog your vehicle according to said sticker, and good luck finding an airpump and the intake manifolds, let alone the intake manifold banjos and all the other fiddly bits. I might stick it in my TSM or my binder with other 'collectible' jeep stuff (like the kaiser color sheet from that year, etc.).

    Silently let it fade away...

Or use the 'federal' sticker for that year. That's like a good upgrade such as better brakes and power steering.

IDK your vision for the sticker.

May be if you are shooting for a 'show' quality rig, a thin magnetic sticker for your cowl? then you peel it off when not needed. And one of them static window stickers so you can peel it off and re-use it later.

I also didn't see what year your rig is? Newer than what, '75 needs to be smogged here? My FIL's 77 (44k original miles on the odo) needs fresh gas, and needs to be driven like it's stolen for about an hour - runs it at 'highway' speeds down a country roads (aka: 45-55) for a couple hours, then changes the oil, then goes to the smog station. That combo has helped it pass every time.

There's a shop here in town, Payless 4wd that does SMOG and other stuff. My FIL likes their service. I think they're too much like Pirate 4x4 (of which they support on their website, and have attitude of)... had a bad experience with them in the 80's and can't let it go. I have other friends in the close circle that use them, some joyfully, some reluctantly. At one time, I thought they were smog referees, but I see that's officially delegated to Butte College now in our area.

From the Bureau of Automotive Repair Site:

IDK all of what this means, but sometimes it is useful. I think my uncle went thru this with his early 90's Toyota when he hit 300k miles and dropped a 4.3L into it. Had to see the Referee since the 4.3L was NOT Toyota equipment, yada, yada, yada.
