Windshield Locking Strip Tool

    I was wheeling up a washout last weekend and I caught the corner of the windshield frame on a tree. The frame flexed and the glass popped out on the opposite corner. No real damage but I got home and had to reset it. I was thinking about last year I had my windshield out and it took my wife and I 45min to get the locking strip in.

    So a little google search and found the right tool for the job....

    It took me less than 10 minutes by myself to get the locking strip in perfectly. My wife doesn't even know how happy she is that I bought this tool!

    Guess you didn't bend the frame? It does help to have the correct tool for the job. glad it went so easily

    This is what i use, Self-Sealing Weatherstrip Locking Tool With Removable Tips, the curly part wraps around
    the spline and as you pull it i zips everything together.45 years ago i paid about $10.00 for mine. A new one now
    is $50.00. Might be able to find one on E-Bay used, i don't think you could ever wear one out.

    I've had my share of battles installing new Jeep glass over the years and if I need to do this again, I'm considering completely dispensing with the gasket and just getting the glass cut oversize and gluing it in like any other modern vehicle. You not only would gain more usable glass area but they don't leak.

    That tool would also work for hardtop glass as it's the same type weatherstrip.

    If the frame flexed that much I'm certainly surprised it didn't bend the frame. Is the glass maybe cut a bit small? If so that will make it tend to be a bit too flexible. Also do you have the locking strip on the inside or outside of the frame?

    your correct that the glass is a little small. I’m sure that doesn’t help. Locking strip on outside.
