I installed the spring bushing and I'm going to starting on the spring hangers.
I think I'm going to call it quits for today.

Excellent!!! Im selfishly begging you to take a ton of pictures, I was pondering this kit myself. It looks like a pretty good compromize for those that don't want to do a lot of fabricating and such.

Ya - I am interested in this to compare with the Holbrooks I am running on the '51. Might be an option down the road.

So are these are a little longer than a stock early spring?........and require moving your front and rear mounts?

The YJ springs are a little longer and much wider. IIRC they are 2.5 inches wide vs the CJ springs which are 1.75 inches wide. Much better ride than stock CJ springs, my dad described a YJ on 3.5in lift BDS springs as "A Cadillac to your tractor" (talking about my JEEP.)

The rear springs with this kit are the same length as the CJ springs. It's the front springs that are longer.

I did some more work tonight. I trimmed the rear spring hanger, then later found out I didn't trim enough. It seems in the instructions. I says. Trim 1 1/8" and a pilot hole 1 5/8 from the bottom of the spring hanger. Come to find out. Spring hangers are different size. They should of measured from the frame down. I found it should be 1" down for the pilot hole.

I didn't want to but I had to take off my Nerf bar.

After 3 hours. One bracket installed.

Yeah, I just got a set of BDS YJ 5" springs and am very interested in this kit. I have a 74 CJ5 that I want to put them under. I just have a bit of body work to do first. My only concern is that I have heard many bad things about the company that sells this kit.

5" spring are really tall. Don't you worry about flopping over? I only went with 3.5" springs. I don't ever want to roll my Jeep over. Out of 28 years. I have never rolled a vehicle.

I got a really good deal on the springs new. I will be putting them in spring under, and I was hoping to run 35's, with a set of axles out of an 86 CJ, so the same dana 30 and dana 44 rear but wider and I will be putting in 1.5" spacers to widen some more. Let me know how your turns out. I am really interested in this kit.
My other rig is a 79 CJ7 with a 360 bored over 30, fuel injected, dual batteries, 3.5 BDS springs spring over with 2" body lift and 1" shakle lift. I am running 35" boggers under it. I have yet to roll it, but anything can happen. What do you think?

Ok here is the update. I got the other bracket mounted and both rear springs are on with the wheels on the ground. I didn't put on the rear shocks yet and thought I would take off the front shocks to test how soft the new spring are. So I bounced on the front bumper. Then went to the back and bounced on the pinle hutch. The new springs are softer.

As (68BuickV6) said. Like a Cadillac.

Then I moved to the front. I removed the driver spring and installed the rear front spring hanger.

Then I moved to the front shackle hanger behind the front bumper. This is where I found a problem. I don't have the shackle mount that a CJ has. Anyone know what's the measurement from the end of the frame horn to the C/L of the hole for the shackle frame mount? I see I'm going to have to remove the bracket I have and weld the new hanger to the frame horn, because it definitely won't fit over what I have.

Thanks Nick. I'm not quite at a stand still yet. I still need to cut off the old mount. I plan on welding all these new mounts. Once I get them where I want them.
