How close is anybody to offering a basically bolt on fuel injection kit? I'm about to rebuild my 67 odd fire 225 and have a good Offy 4 barrel manifold but before go the carb route I was thinking about fuel injection . I am not really computer literate so the more " plug and play" possible the better..... Bob

Howell has a set up for the odd fire, $1500.00

Their website shows nothing for a dauntless odd fire.

I kinda doubt Howell has anything. They use the GM ECU, and it has no provision for an uneven tach signal. Megasquirt has an averaging mode that will work with an odd-fire tach signal, but AFAIK the GM ECU does not. Even fire only.

I have a wheeling buddy that has a Howell setup on his oddfire 225. Call them on the phone, just because it's not on the website doesn't mean anything. The Powerjection system I'm using is a lot of work to get setup. At least it was for me. I think that my buddy added a crank trigger to make the Howell work. I'm not certain about that though.

I ran a megasquirt microsquirt driving a gm tbi on mine. I couldn't it to work well off the hei tach signal. When you look at the signal on an oscilloscope it is super noisy and caused trouble even though the microsquirt had pretty good filtering. I ended up putting a trigger wheel on the crank to get a clean signal and it worked great from then on.

I found that with the megasquirt the self learning would get it tuned well enough for street, but for the trail I needed to work on the tuning manually. The Howell might be better at automatically tuning itself but I think with any aftermarket FI some taking will be needed for maximum performance.

If you go ahead with any system, I would sugest making sure your fuel delivery is robust and consistent and a good wide and O2 sensor on each bank.

Does Howell support more then one O2 sensor? Or is there a way to connect more then one sensor to a single input?

I have the Howell set up on my Jeepster, uses single, one wire O2 sensor, runs great but I have the wrong intake on it, open plumn 4 barrel, I think it would work a lot better with the stock manifold on it. Uses an input off the HEI tac lead instead of a trigger on the crank.

Thanks for all the replies but it looks like from the responses that these systems are far from plug n play; more like buy whatever system you choose and face a fair amount of R&D and trial and error.

Actually - the EZ-EFI is pretty plug and play now. I am in the stages of swapping the Powerjection III to my wife's mustang and putting another EZ-EFI on the '51 to match the setup I have on the '49. Other than then normal plumbing and wiring, you need HEI and it works out of the box.

What brand of crank trigger did you use. I'm thinking about using one. My setup runs great offroad, but could be better around town. And I have some tuning issues that might be related to the HEI's tach signal.

    I used this sensor:

    http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/hall-effect-crankshaft-position-sensor-p-479.html

I made my own trigger wheel that fit around the crank pulley.

I should say that after the dauntless I went to a 4.1 evenfire motor and it ran fine off the HEI signal. But that was a 7 pin HEI module and the microsquirt was running the timing as well on that motor. So I ditched the crank sensor in that application. What issues are you having offroad?

The Howell set is really a bolt on set up, you tell what intake you have and they work it all out in the ECU. Mine started right up, that was as soon as I put in a larger fuel return line?

what types of problems if any are you having, do you recommend this over carburation, and what size return line?

For what it may be worth, Howell fuel Injection now lists a kit for the Dauntless V6 odd fire that they claim is plug n play. May be worth checking out....Bob

Mmm. I would call Howell and make sure it's for the 225 odd fire engine. If I were their copy writer, I would include the 231 and 225 displacements and specify it's not for the 231 even fire. I would not assume they know the difference. As you may recall, the GM computers are not compatible with the unevenly spaced tach signal of the odd fire. In the past, you could get around this by using a crank trigger, but this kit looks like it does not contain a trigger wheel for the crank.
