I'm hearing/ reading great stuff about Engo. Apparently one of the guys there used to work for Mile Marker.
Looking at the E9000S with synthetic line for about $449.
Have any of you fellas had any experience with them?

Keep in mind, it won't get used much, but when I need it, I need it to be reliable. It's just barely over half what a Warn M8000 with synthetic rope costs.

In fact, if I decide to go with the Engo, I'll buy two; one for the TJ also. It needs a winch you know, since it sits in the driveway and rarely gets driven..:D

If you do it I might have to too. I think I might name my Jeep City Slicker? I've never named a vehicle and I'm liking the sound of it.

I don't know anything about them but I hope they are built better than Milemarker's.

I'm reading lots of great stuff about them......But for the money, what kind of quality am I really getting?
Maybe I should just buy the Warn...

Well, you could buy the cheap one for the TJ just to help it get in the driveway, and get the Warn for the real Jeep. ;)

Got a comparison of the specs for the 2 winches? My biggest concern about either one would be the motor duty cycle. Planetary gears?

I know the Warn M8000 is a good winch. I had one on my white Jeep, and it never failed me.

I can't help but wonder about the value of having the synthetic rope. I know it's not as heavy, (plus side) but not near as durable either (down side). Plus huge difference in cost.

I really can't say. I have a Koenig Pto on my 3B and a M6000 on my Commando. Neither have failed to do their tasks. A few friends have a few other brands that had issues like solenoids sticking and wiring that wasn't done right so a friend had to hold the wire in the connector. Just me, get a good product and it will save your sorry butt and your friends as well. I don' know many times I run my Koenig out to do a assist.
The M8000 is actually the old M6000. they figured out that it pulled a bit more than they thought.

How about put one on the TJ and test it out? Personally I'd go Warn if you need to depend on it as it will give you piece of mind. If you don't like the Engo it will still look good on the TJ :)

I read it as ego winch. Is that when your ego falls down a ravine and you gotta get it out?

Yes........... you need dependability in some form or another if this conversation is about recovery of a stuck vehicle.........and that could realistically be any number of good brands out there........but the reality of any winch performing comes right back to the person behind the controls.......Nothing more , Nothing less..............that along with having the proper support accessories under the seat like extra cable , chains , snatch block , clevis's Etc.......and of course the ability and knowledge to use them.

Patrick did you not already have a Warn 8274?

Another option might be the Warn VR series. I have one on a mobile mount for my flatbed trailer. The little I've used it seems to work well and have plenty of power, and be reasonably well built, but you can definitely see the quality difference between it and the higher end Warn.

I agree with you to a point Tarry99 but no amount of skill, accessories, or experience will make a piece of junk better than what it starts out as.
