Aftermarket Radiator For A 65 Cj5

My original radiator has had it.

I see that $500 or so one out there in places like Amazon but I don't need OEM style.

There was a radiator shop that I took mine to and the people there said they had a line on an aftermarket but in the past week, no dice getting in touch with them.

Any recommendations on those aluminum ones on Ebay or something along those lines?

If push comes to shove, I will break down and get the overpriced one but am not thrilled about it.

 

Engine? Assuming a F134.

It's an F134. My bad for leaving that out.

 

It has indeed been covered well.

I have a minority viewpoint, but will once again suggest you at least look into a re-core for your original. My reason is that the originals are far heavier duty and better quality than cheap replacements as built today. I have had a new radiator reduced to a skeleton after just a few years here in salty NH. On the other hand I have some 50 and 60 year old units still perfectly good.

Depending on your local radiator shop, a re-core may possibly be an economical alternative. YMMV.

Modern radiators are almost a commodity....aluminum and plastic, if it goes bad, toss it and buy a new one.
In the 60's, radiators were commonly repaired, rodded out, or re cored.

 

I found one of the last local shops that was said to be really good and left it for evaluation.

A couple of weeks later I heard back confirming it was more rust than radiator but getting it re-cored or one made was possible. I told the place I'd swing by on payday to put things in motion but it looks like they closed up shop.

I left a message on the machine today and will give it until the end of the week. I'm about ready to pull the trigger and take a chance on an Ebay one. Aluminum doesn't bother me. The Omix-ADA one is a tad rich for my blood.

There are plenty on Ebay but most all of them end at 1964 for year. Is there a real difference in 1965 and later? From all I ever heard of or knew about, Willys CJ5s for the most part weren't that different in the big areas like body.

I'd like to know of one that will mount fairly easy and have a part number and a good place to buy it from.

Go to Rock Auto and look up '64 or so Ford Falcon with a six cylinder.
You could look up your year of CJ5 also and compare prices between the two.

I have bought several radiators from Speedway motors. They sell a house brand by dimension with easy brackets. If you can re-core your original that would be the best way to go. There simply isn't a shop around here that is willing or has the ability to re-core anymore. Rockauto doesn't even list a radiator for a 64 CJ5.

 

Rock Auto does list one for a 1968 with the F-134 engine.

Two things about the radiator though... first it is out of stock. Which is a good thing.
Second thing is it is built by --- wait for it--- Omix-Ada!

So you don't want that one, any way.

 

So, what year CJ5 have you got?
