" When I got it, I drained the tranny and chocolate milk came out. "
If that's the case Lee , Drain it and the TC, Flush them both out with a good tranny flush product (?) & refill it again , run it through the gears & Flush it again. The " chocalate milk " means you had water in there, of course.
You could also take it to a Tire & Lube shop & have them do it , to save a mess & time.

Thanks Richie. Did the drain flush time once. Will do again, until it comes out clean then fill with GL1. Then finally I can install my OD.

Yes Sir , Lee...... water is our enemy & I am a HUGE believer in P. M. (y)
BTW, There was a thread somewhere here about using tranny fluid & kerosene as a flush , I believe ?

GL1? Isn't that Model T era stuff? You want GL4.

I was told that GL4 has additives that are hard on synchros. Ws told by other forum members to use the GL1. Now I'm completely #@&*# confused. But the FSM does call for GL4. Why does it seem there is so much confusion on this?

I've always paid attention to your knowledge and will do so in this case too. Thanks Tim

In terms if brand name...many of us use sta-lube with gl4 that is okay for gold colored metals like synchro...I can get it from my local napa.

Going to Napa tomorrow. Gonna pull 4 drains, fill with what I have for another flush. Add a few more miles then going final with the GL4. Thanks guys

You can use the GL5 from Walmart or wherever in the axles. Perfectly fine for those. I use the Stalube GL4 linked above in the 3-speeds, but the Walmart 85W90 GL5 in a gallon jug for the axles.

Update - yesterday I think I might have identified the issue. After masking off most of the outside noise sources, I found that the whine is nearly not noticeable as before, but a new noise spoke up. I found that there is a rattle noise that is present any time the wheels are turning. Yep, I believe the needle bearings on the TC intermediate shaft need replaced. Plan to rebuild it next year (want to do some keeping for now). My question is, can the shaft/bearings be changed out from the bottom without having to pull the TC from the jeep? Also, does my diagnosis seem correct? I realize you can't hear it from your house, but it's not a whine now. It's more like a rattle. Does it even in neutral until the TC case gears stop turning at a stop.

yes and no . the shaft has to be driven out . front of case to rear .
I find it much easier to work on it on floor
another area that could cause a rattle is the bushing inside of main shaft . for the front output shaft
see if you can wiggle front yoke side to side

Clatter is not normally associated with the intermediate shaft and roller bearings. Not sure what it would be though...

I think it does wiggle. That's bad, huh?
