'74 Restoration- Parts Paint Options

    Hey All,
    Been busy few weeks on my factory/stock restoration. Got all my parts back from my powder coater. They came out awesome. Couldn't believe how nice the frame looks. Now assembly has begun. Rolling chassis once again: new brakes, lines, bushings, etc. Few things locked up due to Covid, which has my project on hold. But while I wait. Some things continue. 90% of the parts are powder coated satin 20% black. Others being DIY painted. Anyone who has insight to how these parts rolled of the assembly line, that would be great. Trying to be true to the factory colors, but some liberties taken.

    Opinions welcomed...What would you do or Jeep did?

    Drive shafts - Satin Black or Cast Metal Gray
    Bellhousing - Aluminum Gray
    Tranny / T-case - Satin Black
    Power steering box - Satin Black or Cast Metal Gray
    Clutch rod / bellcranks - Satin Black or Cast Metal Gray
    Warn lock out hubs - paint these or just clean them real well. Mine are still somewhat gray.
    Shocks - Anyone know what was stock Manufacture and color?

    Best I can remember ...

    Drive shafts - Satin Black
    Bellhousing - bare aluminum
    Tranny / T-case - no paint / black
    Power steering box - no paint
    Clutch rod / bellcranks - white plated (rod, not the nut) / no paint (something like mill scale finish)
    Warn lock out hubs - polished bare aluminum, likely clear-coated
    Shocks - black, Monroe IIRC

    Thanks Tim, very helpful. Interesting on the 'no paint' parts. Would have thought they'd paint things just to avoid rusty parts later on.

    Dunno, maybe it's the alloy that allows it. Heavy cast iron parts don't seem to shed flakes of rust like most steel.

    Exactly...Sweep any part of my garage during tear down...and you'd have a dust pan full of "Jeep". Vintage '74 rust!. Do the same during my rock crawler builds back in Ohio and you'd have a trash can full of rust! Akron Ohio...'Rust Belt' is accurately named!~ I'll probably 'cast gray' paint those non-painted parts, or clear coat them. I've just got a huge aversion to all things RUST.

    Mine was stock the way Tim explained, With the exception tranny on mine was black, transfer case no paint.
