Narrow Track Cj7 Soa

    Anyone else gone soa narrowtrack? Seems tippy wanna make it work looking for ideas

    I bought it as-is having second thoughts before I consider going sua If yj springs would help?

    Often spring-over is thought of as a cheap way to get a lot of lift, but there's a lot involved. And it make body roll worse than comparable lift with a spring-under.

    YJ, maybe. JMO - '76 and newer already has wider springs than the early Jeeps, so the gain from YJ springs isn't as much, I'd think. I expect there are lots of aftermarket lift springs for that Jeep - BDS is liked a lot around here. If I went larger than 33s I'd cut the fenders rather than lift more.

    so to go back to sua slide the springs under and change the drop pitman?

    Definitely a dropped pitman arm, you want to keep the drag link and tie rod as close to parallel as possible to reduce bump steer.

    Might depend on what you want the jeep to do. I've seen a couple members' intermediate cj5s work very nicely on the rubicon with SOA with better articulation than can be achieved with an SUA with highly arched springs...a cj7 with SOA and 35s would be a solid trail rig, but might come with a bit of the trade off of less street friendly.

    There are a few things you can do to stabilize your soa ride. Do you still have a sway bar installed? If not install one with quick connects. Shocks can make a huge difference. I like the bilstien 5100/5125, the newer rancho rs5000x and rs9000 and of course fox. Controlling spring unload entering and exiting corners makes a huge difference.

    I consider an SOA a hardcore mod so unless you have the time, patients and intelligence actual use for it and be willing to experiment do not attempt an SOA. This conversion is not for the daily driver although it can be driven daily once you get it right. I love my SOA and would never go back however there are quite a few less hardcore options available that can get you close to the look and few others that can get you close to the performance. That said most of the critics have never had one or have purchased one from Bubba who quit while he was behind. I've built SUA jeeps also probably the best was the YJ with OME springs, 1 inch body lift, modified and lockable revolver shackles, sway bar disconnects, telescopic front track bar and rear bar deleted. The thing could get a tire 36" off the ground and leave 3 down. These mode would also work on a CJ7

    Like others have said, it can work really well if engineered properly. Again it depends on ones goals. As a short cut to a lifted Jeep it’s a bad idea. If combined with other modifications and corrections spoa can be a high performance suspension, and articulate really well. I’ve built one on an ECJ5 platform and quite liked it...it certainly took a little work to get it right. If I was to do it again, among other things, I’d definitely run a high steer set-up. All that said, a SPUA suspension can also be built to work really well.

    I bought mine with a soa it has cj springs and a drop pitman . I think I'm gonna move forward with the yj springs thanks for all the replys
