New To Me License Plate

That’s a really cool find. Vintage plates on an older vehicle are one of those small touches that really add to the cool factor.

 

The 50 year mark for mine.

 

Those are really cool Tim! I’ve lurked over at oldplateguy.com a bunch but can’t talk myself into spending $250 for vintage plates.

 

Yeah, and I wouldn't either. I got these when guys used to throw them away when moving to Nevada. No one thought they would be cool or valuable. One word of warning, you have to have a strong constitution to go through the YOM plate process at CA DMV.

 

I guess I feel lucky that my vintage plates only cost $12 for a matched set at one of the local vintage stores. Ohio does not require a plate on the front, so my regular plate is in back and the better of the two vintage plates is mounted on the front.

 

I actually found a matching pair of Michigan 1971 plates in an old dump down the road from my house. Boy was I surprised. My jeep is titled as a 71 now

 

The new to me plate looks so much better than the collector vehicle plate

Speaking of license plates, did the original CJ5 have a light to illuminate the license plate?

The driver's side tail light should have a window and clear lens in the bottom of the housing to illuminate the license plate.

 

This is the plate that I installed about 10 years ago. My 1945 GPW is 76 years old.

 

I have an Antique Plate on my Jeep and drive it all the time never had anyone question me about it. One time an Older Woman ask me what was Antique about my Jeep, I told her was over 50 years old, she just looked at me? The Guys in our club told me to just tell a cop I was Test Driving it if they stopped me.
